Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

I just can’t see that happening in a world filled with Technology these days. If this guy is an icon, glasses couldn’t hide how he looks, even if he acts nothing like Superman. I would have really preferred they modernized that part of Superman in MOS.

Technology vs a guy that can flight near lightspeed, it can totally happen, yes, he's an Icon, and people don't have a reason to think he has an alter ego, how many celebrities have uncanny doppelgangers? and how many of them? It would be just a guy who kinda looks like that, no one would shot him, no one is going to throw him off a building to see if he can fly, and Supes's too smart to put himself into those kind of situations.

In fact, in the comics, it's not rare that someone tells him or thinks "hey, he kinda looks like..." and then he trips and pours his coffee on someone...."meh, it can't be him" :lol

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

But Clark using glasses makes a lot of sense, with his glasses on he's just one guy who kinda looks like Superman, but since he's a wimp no one will make the connection, no one even has to think Superman has an alter ego, he's just a guy who kinda looks like him.

:goodpost:
Has anyone read All-Star Superman or watched the movie adaptation? It was excellent. Clark fooled everyone because no one could possible believe he's Superman despite kinda looking like him because he's so humble and a big bafoon.

Heck, he even took off his glasses in front of Luthor and Luthor just looked at him and smirked.

All-Star Superman is EXCELLENT, I urge any comic book fan to read or watch it.

My most favoritest Supes book :hi5: My favorite part is when Kal Kent shows up.

I know, he even says "you kinda look like him" :lol

We're talking superheros here :lol. One guy who dresses in a Bat costume, and another who wears blue spandex and flies into the sky. You need to suspend disbelief in these things. I have no problems with Clark Kent disguising himself with bifocal glasses, even in modern times.

That sounds awesome. I am so behind in comics. I'll need to give that a read.

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

Let me ask you a question, have you watched the animated series? Or played the Arkham games? Even Roger Craig does a much better job portraying both identities with individuality.

In TDK and R, Batman was just Bale screaming for me, he did a fantastic job in BB to portray both sides, you're right, he was older, but not 60 years old like in Frank Miller's Returns, maybe it would have made sense then, and it's still arguable.

And the fights vs Bane were so overly choreographed, and lacked the punch of the previous movies IMO.

BB was top notch, is the only one of the trilogy I watch frequently, cause I dare to say it's perfect, and TDK is good too, but TDKR was my least favorite.

Yea I grew up on it, and I beat all the Arkham games. Is Roger Craig the guy who just recently voiced Batman in Origins? I thought he did a great job.

BB did show of the best Batman, and I rank it right behind TDK and Rises last, but Rises is my favorite. I just know it wash’t the best one and had its problems. The only fight I felt was overly choreographed was the final fight. The sewer fight I thought was one of the best scenes ever in a superhero movie. BB in my opinion Bale was at his best, but I don’t think he was bad in any of the movies. Was he perfect? maybe not but he was overall a great performance.

We can agree that Begins is a freaking gem :1-1:

The last Bat-rubber-suit never looked better.

But in MOS Clark looks just like Superman, only with glasses. I’m looking forward to seeing Cavill’s performance as Clark in the sequel though.

It totally justifies how Clark and Supes can coexist. It's my favorite Superman tale too. :hi5:

My gf cried at the ending. :lol

Yes you must! Get the book and the movie too as I think both are unique in their own way. FAR better than MOS.

Yea, I remember when it was underrated, now it seems everyone realizes how incredible it was.

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

Read it if you can, the movie kind lefts some awesome things out, and the art is beautiful.

Agreed I'm always torn between the movie or the book but the main theme of the movie is just too good!

I think thats a cop out answer. They are supposed to be as realistic as possible. Some changes need to be made to make the audience feel like this is what it would look like if this heroes really existed. I just think the whole glasses thing could have been modernized, but it doesn’t ruin the movie for me at all, its just a missed opportunity in my opinion. I think MOS was sub-par more because of how it was structurally made.

But the glasses thing is just as modern as anything Nolan-related, it's still relevant in the comics, I gave you a realistic explanation, as simple as "hiding in plain sight".

I think Nolan really did the best he could to make everything as honest as he could to fit in the world he created for Batman. For the hiding in plain sight to work Cavill would really have to sell it. I don’t think that would work if Superman existed in real life. Christopher Reeve I thought did a fine job at it though. I guess I can’t really say its a negative until I watch Batman vs Superman.

In the comics, Batman and the Martian Manhunter stood in for Clark several times, and everyone KNOWS Clark looks like Supes, it's just unacceptable if he's really Superman.

Remember in Arkham City how Bruce Wayne, not Batman, beat up Penguin and his men? Why didn't Penguin suspect Wayne is Batman? Because it's like expecting Paris Hilton is actually Wonder Woman.

I don't know why they didn't a similar route in MOS, it would have stayed in tradition and made the romance between Clark and Lois much better.

No they're not. That was the one major complaint about Nolan's rendition of Batman. It was too entrenched in realism, that it completely abandoned many of the redeeming qualities from the comics which made Batman so great. I appreciate the Animated series and the Arkham games significantly more than the stuff from Nolanverse.

The one realistic thing about Metropolis and Gotham, is that they look like metropolitan cities that you could live in. Aside from that, it's all just a fantasy. And with that said, I think Clark Kent's glasses are just too iconic to just cast aside for the sake of creating a more "realistic", or "modern" version Superman. That's a Superman that I don't want to see.

I do agree, though, MOS could have been done a lot better.

Holly **** I never stopped to listen to the score, that is beautiful.

Well they can't sell it because they just introduced Clark as a reporter for 2 seconds :lol, we'll have to wait.

I don't think they need to sell it, haven't you even encountered someone who looks like someone else you know and have to double check twice to see if it's really him/her? Imagine that happening to with a celebrity walking down the street, now, with Superman, no-one, and I mean, no-one is going to believe he's walking around among us looking like a dork, that idea isn't outdated one bit.
