Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

Well if they are gonna use Hayters voice clips for this mission that confirms that hayter isnt completely out of MGS right? Aaah these guys are up to something!

This is what I was thinking. I know you can interrogate enemies in this game, I wonder if they recorded new dialogue for it, or like Henry said used old recording.

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

As for the voice over, it really depends on Davids' contract. Depending on what the terms were, he could be entitled to residuals which would lead no classic Snake voice for us. We already know how Konami deals with residuals. (Hint: not well.)

It would be dumb of them to make this mission, and give him the MGS1 look again but have him voiced by someone else. That would just enrage the hardcore fans even more than they already are.

Already happened with Silent Hill 3. :lecture

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

I don’t follow the SH series, but I doubt they have anyone in that game as iconic as Snake, and Hayters voice.

Hayter has publicly stated that Kojima doesn't care about the English localization that much, and a few years ago there was this Silent Hill fiasco where the actors claimed residuals for the HD collection, prompting Konami to recast Silent Hill 2&3 and finally comply to the cast of Silent Hill 2 while trying to put on a pretty face to the public. Needless to say, fans were outraged.

David himself refused to comment on the Silent Hill issue when someone asked few years ago because he didn't wanna upset anyone which surprisingly contradicts on how he feels about MGS nowadays.

If there's anyone to thank for the consistency of the MGS voice acting, it's Kris Zimmerman, not Lucas, I mean Kojima.

English localization is important with MGSV though. At least thats what it looks like, getting a big name to play Snake, along with other really good voice actors shows they care a lot. Kojima seems to want to take the story telling to different heights with the motion capture and voice acting.

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

It's just as important in Silent Hill as it is in MGS. Up until MGS4, Kojima Productions never bothered to lip synch the MGS games, resulting in embarrassingly bad lip animations in MGS2 & 3. David Hayter and a number of MGS cast members have expressed their frustrations before on this, resulting them to have to play catch up with the animations, often compromising their acting.

And to support the theory that Kojima and Konami doesn't care, you should read the interview with Agness Kaku, the sole MGS2 translator who suffered a lot because she took the project.

In Silent Hill 2, 3 and 4, Team Silent had lip synched every cutscene to every actor, that shows that the English voices are at the forefront of their games.

I understand that you meant that MGSV is very narrative and thematically relevant, but I'm saying that the chances we'll ever get clips of David Hayter's old voice over is incredibly slim, and in David Hayter's opinion, Kojima couldn't care less.

Yea I read it when you posted it a little while back. Yea I think theres a slim chance to, which is why I’m anxious to see how they handle that little mission.

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

I'm gonna say there's no chance. It's just an extra mission after all. The dialogue- if any- will probably be in text. That being said I would die if they brought Hayter back, even if it was his original voice track

On the announcement, it did blow my mind! For a second I thought they remade Shadow Moses. Almost shat myself.

I can’t see it being text, that would really suck

I wouldn't put it past them, they could give a flying **** about the English speaking market.

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

They've done it before, I wouldn't put it past them. Since they've got Kiefer in, I doubt they'd put Hayters voice in there. So either it's no voices or its in text.

I've realised that if its something I want I won't get it with KojiPro. But they may pleasantly surprise us like they did with this de ja Vu mission!

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

They would probably get a new VA just to spite Hayter. I just don't know how anyone can be happy with the outing of Hayter, it just goes against what the series is. It's past the point of return to get another voice in there as Big Boss.

Bah. We already got that with the animated Batman in Arkham City and suddenly Koji does the same thing and then what? He wants a medal? :lol
