@higgins Just like pturtle said, that's a pretty popular opinion! Although, I don't think anyone would compare MGS3 and the Star Wars prequels in terms of quality (I mean no offense if you like them).
To me, you can only tell if a person is good if he or she confronts evil, and comes out better from it. Solid Snake went through hell, and came out a better person. Big Boss, on the otherhand, cracked. To me, it's way harder for a person to stay in grace, rather than fall from it, so I agree with you that Solid Snake's person is much stronger.
However, these are not real people; they are characters, so while Luke and Solid Snake would be much more interesting as human beings if they were real (because it's very hard to be good. Believe me, I pray all day long because of it!
), I find Darth Vader and Big Boss to be more interesting characters than their series counterparts. I do think Solid Snake is a great character though, and I actually wrote about how playing him in MGS4 helped me during a difficult time. However, I thought a lot of his dialogue was riddled with cliches in the first game (it's an unpopular opinion, so you're welcome to disagree!
). While I liked him, it made it difficult for me to connect with him outside of just being a video game character.
Although, I feel like Solid Snake and Big Boss went through way more than Darth Vader and Luke! I don't want to take into account how Anakin became Darth Vader in the prequels because they made both him and his wife total whiny psychopaths, rather than compelling victims, which George Lucas said he wrote.
