Re: Hot Toys - MMS DX 02 - TDK- BATMAN full spec and pics

Desiccants are used to prevent moisture build-up within the box due to humidity. They won't work for the purpose you are suggesting, sorry.

Ah, I wondered that since the DX Joker has it as well as did Michael Jackson considering how dry those figures are.

Re: Hot Toys - MMS DX 02 - TDK- BATMAN full spec and pics

May sound risky, but I tried with alcohol 70 degrees :

I soaked the abdominal area with alcohol and the alcohol evaporated and dryed the oil..It worked fine but the f.... oil came again after a few days :banghead .

I think I'm starting to go crazy and paranoid with this "oil issue" :stake

Re: Hot Toys - MMS DX 02 - TDK- BATMAN full spec and pics

Well, after 24 hours of being out of the box, my DX has no oil issue, and my v1 has spent 24 hours wearing the cannister belt from the DX without any issues.

I don't think the belts themselves are a source for the oil, to the touch they feel no different than the belt from the v1 and OC Batman and those figures never had a problem.

I love how Hot Toys has their own little packets of chemicals :lol

With mine, the oil leakage issue definitely comes from the belt and started about 2 weeks after I had taken it out of the box.
I contacted HT about this problem and they told me it does come from the belt, and they don't seem to really care about it!! They just told me to take off the belt once in a while and wipe the oil with my fingers:lol:lol:lol

Re: Hot Toys - MMS DX 02 - TDK- BATMAN full spec and pics

I'm also certain it's the belt - the oil has only ever appeared on mine upon fidgeting with the belt, when I have left the belt alone and wiped down the abs, the oil has mostly stayed away.

I tend to agree now that the belt in and of itself is not the source of the oil. However, you should notice in a week or so that the oil will begin to appear, especially if you place the belt directly over the lower ab plates.

I think the ab plates are the source of the oils. The question is why does it appear when the belt is on?

I have one of the Hot Wheels 12" 1966 Batmobiles. The rubber wheels do the exact same thing, they leave an oily residue on the table top where the car is displayed. Perhaps it is an artifact manifested by where a porous substance (rubber) meets a non porous substance (belt or table top) and causes a oily discharge when the rubber area cannot "breathe", as we've already established that the ab armor does not "leak" when it's not covered.

The only strange thing I find is, why wouldn't the belt cause this effect in shipping. Between the shipping from Hot Toys to Toys 2, and Toys2 to me, this figure has been in the box with the belt on for at least 2 weeks.

One thing to note is that the belt is covered in plastic over that area.

Beyond that...beats me! :duh ;)

Re: Hot Toys - MMS DX 02 - TDK- BATMAN full spec and pics

I had a thought that maybe it could somehow have to do with being displayed in closed cabinet, but crow's figure is displayed out in the open so where/how it's displayed can't be a factor.

Re: Hot Toys - MMS DX 02 - TDK- BATMAN full spec and pics

You have to support your theories with not just observations of the situation but also undeniable tests to come to the correct conclusion.
I used two sheets of paper separated by a layer of plastic wrap in between so I can clearly identify from which side the residue is coming. I would sandwich this between the belt and the suit after cleaning it all up and the residue would always show up only on the suit side. This was repeated over the last week dz of times always with the same result

As for the observation of no residue during shipping, I stil have to check my packaging but I suspect that when the figure is inserted into the foam mold, the foam itself is strong enough to apply pressure onto the belts sides to push up the front of the belt just enough to alleviate any pressure from it. The foam was certainly stiff enough as I remembered it difficult to remove the figure from the foam. Also when inserting the figure during packing you would force the figure into the foam which would also possibly result in the belt being pushed up/out wards

Hmm clever paper expirement - I guess again it's coming down to perhaps source being suit (contrary to what I have believed so far), but triggered by the belt pressure somehow

Re: Hot Toys - MMS DX 02 - TDK- BATMAN full spec and pics

Well I'm onto my next test. I've put the cannister belt on, but at the looser fitting.

Re: Hot Toys - MMS DX 02 - TDK- BATMAN full spec and pics

MF and all that are receiving it just now. Not that I dont want you to join in the testing but I have been beltless for the last 36ish hours and residue has been less but is still surfacing! I don't want you to suffer the same so I encourage you to hold off any testing until I can confirm that the effects can be at least stopped ones you go beltless

If beltless is the only cure, then that's no cure, the figure looks silly without a belt on. My current trial is the only thing left that offer hope, never putting the belt on at all in the tight setting, and putting it on finally with the loose setting. Either that works, having not drawn out the residue yet and it being loose also doesn't bring it out, or there's no means of wearing the belt and not generating it. You may be able to apply something behind the belt to absorb it, but I'd really like to find if there's a way to just put a belt on the figure, as it should be, and not suffer this issue.

Re: Hot Toys - MMS DX 02 - TDK- BATMAN full spec and pics

Actually I just need to confirm that the leaking can will stop ones the pressure is off before I move on to a solution. I just think I need to find a way to prevent the belt from exerting any pressure on the abs as the sides and rear seems to be uneffected. As mentioned before I would think adding some form of spacers to the sides of the abs may do
right now I am just worried that ones the leaking has triggered and past a point of no return even this solution may not work an hence my recommendation to hold off your testing until then

Re: Hot Toys - MMS DX 02 - TDK- BATMAN full spec and pics

It must be a reaction between the belt and the body.
MaulFan's belt did not leak on his V1 and the DX is fine in the box, before you take the plastic cover off the belt.
I would say tape on the back of the belt may work.
