Re: Hot Toys - MMS DX 02 - TDK- BATMAN full spec and pics

Oil on the body or suit interior wouldn't necessarily be a long term problem. When I had to fix the broken leg on my v1, I noticed an oily touch to the body and suit interior when I had to take the pants off, and that figure's over a year old with no problems.

Still, I rather not like the thought of having oil cover major joints for a protracted amount of time. And the nature and amount of oil emitted from the affected area of the DX is different from the trace amounts on the V1, I assume.

Regardless, Leniak said the the oil isn't leaking underneathe the suit, so it's a non-issue, I think.

Re: Hot Toys - MMS DX 02 - TDK- BATMAN full spec and pics

I had a thought that maybe it could somehow have to do with being displayed in closed cabinet, but crow's figure is displayed out in the open so where/how it's displayed can't be a factor.

Actually mine's been displayed in a Detolf for about the past month, and since I put it in there, the oil issue had gotten worse. From my various experiments, I'm almost sure it has to do with exposure to open air and possibly humidity/heat. The belt itself could be causing that area to not get enough air flow and the armor could start to sweat because of it. I have no idea why it would only affect the abs, though. I've switched to the V1 belt because it has a much looser fit, and the only substantial oil buildup since is where the belt is sitting close to or on the lower plates directly above the waist. The abs are still leaking oil, but it's a very minor amount compared to what I had to deal with when I had the new belt on there. Also, since I've applied the varnish and a few coats of acrylic paint/sealer, I only have to wipe it down maybe once a day. I'm not convinced that Hot Toys has isolated or even attempted to isolate/fix this problem, so I'm not destroying this one to get it replaced, since I'm almost positive any that I'd get would eventually have the same issue.

With all this talk of oil problems and defects I forget how cool the figure actually looks. I still don't like the cape but thats about my only criticism thats why I bought a custom.

That's the nag of the defects, if it weren't for them, this would just be a kickass figure you could go on and enjoy, but when people have flaking paint, deformed heads and residue build up right out of the box on a $200 figure, it sucks.

All your complaints, whining, crying and over-blowing of peeling, cowls, sonar blah, blah blah...

Over analyzation and everything was blown way out of proportion...

Well, the sky is falling.

Just HOW MUCH oil/residue buildup are we talking about here? Some people make it sound like there is a Niagara Falls of oil spilling out of this thing; enough that America could really piss off OPEC and no longer be dependent on foreign oil.

Re: Hot Toys - MMS DX 02 - TDK- BATMAN full spec and pics

crOw has pics posted earlier in this thread.

..and no one has ever stated anything to that effect.

Re: Hot Toys - MMS DX 02 - TDK- BATMAN full spec and pics

It's not a massive ammout of oil buildup from what I gather, it sounds like just a clear and noticalbe buildup, but to me, that's no different than flaking paint or deformed heads, these figures cost good much and it's on HT to produce them in ways and with materials that ensure product integrity under a variety of conditions and over time.

Love the pics! keep it up!! I love the interrigation room, it looks sick!!!. MY dx batman is finally arriving tomorrow!!!:chew

Re: Hot Toys - MMS DX 02 - TDK- BATMAN full spec and pics

Has Hot Toys already released a statement on this problem?

What if this "oil" is toxic and little kids play with the figure and then put their fingers in their mouth or eat without washing their hands first.

I agree with MaulFan, it is an expensive figure and Hot Toys should make sure that there are no problems with it before they release it.

Re: Hot Toys - MMS DX 02 - TDK- BATMAN full spec and pics

Problem is this particuar issue isn't showing up until people get him. No one's reported him showing residue in the box before taking him out, which means it probably didn't show in the factory and the effect is brought out in him by environmental conditions or something. That said, the new suit looks much nicer than the v1 just in the detailing, but where the v1 didn't have these issues, I can't help wondering, would sticking with the rubber method from that figure, just with new molds, have been better overall. Maybe things will work out, I won't get the residue and maybe we'll have a route people can try to avoid ever having it.

Once people start to see some side effects of the oil then I think we can start worrying. I just maybe HT put too much into the low ab area to keep it fresh or lubricated or something and it's seeping out due to gravity or something, we really don't know.
