I think it would be safe to say the belt's effect is pressure related. I believe everyone reporting the lubricant has reported it at the ab area, not the entire waistline. I can't spot anything so unique about the abs to stand out as why that seems the only area affected other than the most pressure being there, but at the loose belt setting, I don't perceive any pressure on the area. It seems like the problem starts with the belt being so tight it squeezes the fluid out of the suit like juicing an orange.

So does it seem to be an oil within the suit, or could it be lubricant on the base body that HT used to help get the suit on, seeping through?

With mine, the oil leakage issue definitely comes from the belt and started about 2 weeks after I had taken it out of the box.
I contacted HT about this problem and they told me it does come from the belt, and they don't seem to really care about it!! They just told me to take off the belt once in a while and wipe the oil with my fingers

Its unfortunate that Hot Toys doesn't seem to be concerned with this issue.

Well the belt that's on in the box is the one without the cannisters and all that, and I didn't stop to pay attention to it being tight or not in the box, I took it off quick, it wasn't very tight when I put it on briefly for a couple photos. It's a different assembly from the cannister one. I guess it's not very tight. The cannister belt is the v1 belt. I find it odd that the v1 belt is loose on the v1 but snug even at the loose setting on the DX when so much of the DX is slimmed down from the v1.

I m pretty sure that the "oil issue" source does not come from the belt. If the problem would be the belt, then the crouch area would be affected too.
Besides..my bats its on stands position and I placed his belt just below the abdominal area (the 4 triangular ab) an the f..... oil covers the whole ab area :

How high up on the suits are you guys putting your belts?? I have a minor oil issue on the bottom corner of 1 of the 4 stomach plates but the belt sits below that and isn't particularly tight so I can't see how its related to the belt in any way.

But tell me does anyone else have a figure with very shiny and possibly oily mesh? The 'underlying' suit that the armour 'lies over'.

Do we really need to worry about this oil?

Then how do you explain that when I take off the belt: no problem. And after a few hours, there's oil on it. But it might be some weird chemical reaction between the plastic the belt's made of and the rubber of the suit.

My mesh is shiny but dry to the touch, just seems to have a glossy to distinguish it more from the plates.

OK summarizing my findings which I posted on Hot Toys FB page:
DX02 oily residue in the abdominal area - my findings so far :
- First of I still love this figure!!!
- Second do NOT panic as I have been testing it for a week now and it does not seem to be linked to the peeling issues
- It is NOT applied externally on purpose to protect anything as it was not there when I opened both... my DX02 boxes and is not found anywhere else
- It only developed ones I took it out of the box. I suspect stored inside the box the foam was pressing on the sides of the belt enough to help it clear the abdominal area.
- Rubber in the abdominal area is different in characteristics with any other part of the suit as it is significantly stiffer. HT can you enlighten us what was done to stiffen that area?
- Early on I had it beltless and no residue would develop. Ones the belt is on the residue will develop.
- Amount of residue is directly related to the pressure the belt exerts onto the abdominal area of the rubber suit. So the tightness and position of the belt are both factors
- Residue develops on both matte and graphite patterned textures of the suit in that area but more noticeable in the matte areas as it sill turn the material darker as well
- Residue will not just develop on the surface but will soak the rubber and move within the material
- If you leave the belt on long enough without cleaning, the residue will accumulate and soak up that area and move up the suit to become visible beyond the belt
- No residue will develop past the sides to the back even when you can see the same pressure markings
- After days of testing now 24hr beltless the residue still surfaces after cleaning but is definetely a lot less than with the belt and I suspect it's just left over residue from the previous tests that was still trapped in the rubber so I am hoping eventually it will stop
- I will be looking for a way to help the belt clear the abdominal area to avoid this problem but I would like to see HT confirm the observations on their end and find a better resolution, maybe a new looser belt
Notes:
- It's not a chemical reaction between the belt and the suit as the same
residue occurs with paper and plastic wrap placed in between

- in most of my tests I used my woman's makeup "paper" that helps her
remove the facial oils. Works great in these tests and provides a very
good measure of the amount of residue leaking
- also I used the paper folded over and sandwiching plastic wrap to test the origin of that residue and it is the suit and not the belt

Here's a question: Has anyone been brave enough to look underneath the suit in the area that has the residue? It would require removing/cutting the adhesive around the waist, though, if it is constructed like the V1.

yeah its not the body underneath as I there is no residue between the two halves of the suit either

Hmmm, good to know. I wasn't assuming it was the TT that was causing it, but I was hoping there wasn't any oil around underneath the suit, which could cause long-term trouble.

Oil on the body or suit interior wouldn't necessarily be a long term problem. When I had to fix the broken leg on my v1, I noticed an oily touch to the body and suit interior when I had to take the pants off, and that figure's over a year old with no problems.

I do agree there is some residue/grease/oil in several areas but it doesn't "regenerate" I was paying extra attention to it due to the reports here but did not find any on the abs. I did find some inside the sonar head

To be more accurate both belts have metal pieces molded in so the magnets inside the sticky bomb gun can attach to them
