Re: Hot Toys - MMS DX 02 - TDK- BATMAN full spec and pics

It is part of this community that everyone shares their collecting experience and this is obviously a serious problem and warrants the attention it is getting.

I also have a feeling that if it wasn't getting this attention that the oil would seep out and dry up and if you don't wipe it, it will evaporate and not damage the paint. But I could be wrong.

Re: Hot Toys - MMS DX 02 - TDK- BATMAN full spec and pics

Well I'm not bothering to wipe away the oil now. If this stuff is in these rubber suits what harm will it do on the surface?

Re: Hot Toys - MMS DX 02 - TDK- BATMAN full spec and pics

I havnt ever rubbed mine away and it appears to have not harmed it, or done anything, and is gone for now

Re: Hot Toys - MMS DX 02 - TDK- BATMAN full spec and pics

Taking Dinolast's suggestion in mind, I've left mine beltless and untouched for the majority of the last couple days. No extra oil buildup. It just reaches a certain amount (shiny, but not leaking) and just remains the same.

However, just because it hasn't gotten worse doesn't absolve HT from this debacle.

Re: Hot Toys - MMS DX 02 - TDK- BATMAN full spec and pics

I only got him 2 days ago, but you guys have got me SO paranoid. Every time I walk by him I check out his abs. I feel like Liberace at a Gold's Gym.

:lol

As for the cape - I had a real problem at first, but putting on and taking off the backpack really educated me on how the clips work, they're the same shape on the cape as on the backpack. Also realizing the cloth was supposed to go under the chest plate with the clip also helped me figure it out.

Thanks for the tips! I hope I can find this post when I actually have the figure in hand.

Very well said, and thank you for validating both sides here.

i know this oil problem is eating away at people...

but...this thread isn't fun anymore. not only are people getting more and more worried about this issue (i can understand why though), its also causing more worries for people that don't even have the figure yet.

lets get back to taking more kickass pics of this piece, and enjoy what we have so far and just have fun with the figure.

Re: Hot Toys - MMS DX 02 - TDK- BATMAN full spec and pics

Having the figure build up oil takes the joy out of it for many people, it doesn't look good, and it worries us about the future of the figure. It's a significant defect and not easily looked past for some. The fact is, HT released a figure with a significant production error that a number of collectors at this site have received figures with, it's HT's slip up that has cast a rain cloud over this figure.

If people are lucky enough to get one without problems or are content with it in whatever condition it's in, no one's stopping them from having fun in here, let them post away, but this is also a discussion point for those concerned with the matter and looking to fellow collectors for help and answers.

I understand that seeing so much of this in here might grow old for some people, but it's not like a group of people coming in here putting down the figure with the same negative points over and over again like some threads get, it's a group of us that love this figure, and just want to have an issue, that stands in the way of truly enjoying, resolved and dealt with and turn to communicating as a group to hopefully find that resolution.

oh dude don't get me wrong, i'm not saying you guys should stop. you all have every right to be stressing over these things. i mean, not only myself, but all of us here spent a s***load of money on this thing.

it's just that due to the issues with this very much anticipated figure (no thanks to HT rushing the product out), you're right, it cast a rain cloud over it, and because of that, it isn't fun anymore to read up on the thread.

i guess to even things out, i think someone here with excellent photography skills should just take more pics of this beautiful, but flawed figure (coughcoughcoughMAULFANcoughcough).

no worries from me, i'm not gonna complain about people complaining about these problems, its just a shame that more fun can't be had with bats DX.

Honestly, it bothers me so much, I can't even enjoy looking at him. If I leave the oil, it looks like crap, and if I keep wiping, the paint wears away and it looks like crap. I'm just waiting out the Chinese New Year to get wheels really spinning to have this taken care of. Last time I wiped him was yesterday morning when I noticed the paint coming away. This is what it's like now leaving it alone.

I will add, part of my heated attitude about this whole thing is, it drives me crazy when people don't up to their mistakes and try to blame other people or act like they didn't do anything. The combination of an email from HT telling me to wipe the stuff away and the act of wiping stripping paint off my figure just set me off, as obviously, wiping isn't a resolution since the more I wipe, the worse the effect gets, and the paint starts to strip off the figure. HT's making me feel like they aren't taking this problem serious and taking real action to help people out that are dealing with it, and since people are getting figures with it happening in the box even, it's clearly something from the production process and their fault. They acknowledged shipping out figures with warped heads and peeling paint, I just want them to show the same attention and concern for this problem, especially since if they could just resolve it, this would easily be one of the best figures ever made.

oh we had loads of fun already with pages of pictures .. just maybe not in the latest dz pages :p

Re: Hot Toys - MMS DX 02 - TDK- BATMAN full spec and pics

I'm glad I was able to get the photo fun out of it that I did before things set in, I still have more I want to do, but enough's out of my system that if/when I get a replacement, I can just take it out of the box and do nothing with it for an extended period just to see what happens doing nothing, putting no belts on, if any residue shows, not wiping it.

Re: Hot Toys - MMS DX 02 - TDK- BATMAN full spec and pics

My dx batman is having the oil problem to. I am wondering if the magnet in the belt might the cause. Has anyone tried to put the original belt on him . Does it still leak even with out the belt on?

many of them who even don't have put their belts on batman, have oily batmans, so it's not the belt that causes the problem. it's the suit...

Love your banner thrust ^
Well just now, i decided to actually take my bats off the shelf, and take the belt off to properly assess the oilyness, and i was quite shocked. ALOT hiding behind there. This sure is odd. To be honest, if it doesnt harm the figure, i'm not overly fussed, i still think this is such a great figure, and representation that we have received, so many people are just focussing on the negatives. Although, for the price, these problems should not exist

I agree...

If the figure is like that one month after release, imagine after 2 years, maybe the complete suit will be with Oil...

Re: Hot Toys - MMS DX 02 - TDK- BATMAN full spec and pics

batman's been eating too much oily food lately. :D
i hope when the dc batch comes it will be oil free by then.

Re: Hot Toys - MMS DX 02 - TDK- BATMAN full spec and pics

Hi, i taked my other destroyed batman dx suit and you can look from where the oil came, is not the belt, i think is the glue that they used to put the parts together:

Re: Hot Toys - MMS DX 02 - TDK- BATMAN full spec and pics

That starts to make some sense. But I still cant figure out what will be the reolution besides trading it for a new one. Hot Toys REALLY needs to say something about this. It's a DX figure. And a really expensive one, I might add...

Re: Hot Toys - MMS DX 02 - TDK- BATMAN full spec and pics

I can't see that the glue is responsible for the oil-leaking. those gluing-spots aren't near those stomach-plates. there are more on the side of the body.

does anyone have tried to contact hot toys again after they have responsed with their standard-answer?

Re: Hot Toys - MMS DX 02 - TDK- BATMAN full spec and pics

Been talking to HT, I was told the problem is being taken very seriously and they are researching the cause and working on a solution, but obviously CNY is a big Holiday in HK (a bit like the Crimbo shut down for the west). They are talking to the manufacturer of the materials used so hopefully we will know soon after the CNY break.

I told them that I left mine with a small patch of kitchen paper towel behind the belt last night and it doesn't seem to have come back.
As I said before it feels like some kind of silicone discharge, I wonder if it is gravity driven by the figure standing upright, so whatever the 'oil' is, it is seeping to the bottom of the panel. I do wonder what material it is made from, is it vinyl or silicone.

I get the feeling that the mood is pretty low (as it is around here) regarding this problem, and they do want to put it right as soon as is possible.
