Super Freak
People hold onto these things because that one incident showed his true nature and it wasn't what Nike was selling us. The bottom line is when he left Cleveland he basically ruined the economy of the entire downtown area and that ruff. If it was just some other guy leaving then it's not a big deal but businesses lived and died by this one guy, I'm not saying that it was all his responsibility I'm just saying the way he did things was classless.
It's unfair for one person to have to bear the brunt of this. How much allegiance does one person have to have to a community?
Lebron was drafted in 2003, and at the end of the 2005 / 2006 season, he signed a contract extension. He didn't have to do that. He could have left then, but signed the extension, and gave Cleveland seven years.
Unfortunately, in sports we lionize athletes too much. If anybody here were offered a better employment opportunity or chance to realize our dreams, we would take it in a heartbeat.
I won't deny that the way he went about it was tasteless, but we as fans shouldn't deny an individual the right to do what they think is right for them.
