Ruined is harsh considering the cost to the customer.

Hot Toys have no need to update their sculpts because fans buy anything as long as its got Hot Toys on the box.

Well, when you see Hot Toys on the box you know that it brings a base, multiple weapons, multiple hands, multiple accessories, die-cast parts, LED's, superior paint job, far better quality plastic and you dont need to buy 4 figures if you want to have a masked look, open mouthed, closed mouth or battle damaged.

I dont mind the inaccuracy of the HT head sculpt if it means the rest of the product is better. Id love the masked P2 NECA as well but its essentially a 20" novelty shampoo bottle toy.
 
Take it from a statue lover, Hot Toys lover, and now a NECA enthusiast.

The NECA Predator 1/4, march all over up and down over Hot Toys Predators (and I frikkin love the Hot Toys Predator line).

I mean its not even remotely close to me! Make a nice little dio base and enclose it in a acrylic case and it looks every bit as good as a statue.

Its not until you get up close where you can tell it is a giant size action figure. I buy my Predators new for $65.

Sorry all you Hot Toys enthusiasts, no comparison for the price and at the size! NONE!!!!!

Funny how Hot Toys peeps down and pick apart each new Hot Toys sculpt, but then when NECA does a more accurate sculpt at a bigger size for chump change, all of a sudden Hot Toys can do no wrong....funny:wink1:

Personally as someone who collects statues I want the item that looks the most like the real thing. I want the item that looks the least like a doll/toy. The Neca Predator is that item. I would love to have the Maquette or the Cinemamaquette but I don't have that sort of cash.

I thought about getting the HT classic version when it went up at SS but could not bring myself to get something that small and doll like. That is not a swipe at HT fans. Many of their items are amazing (Batman, Joker etc..) but I just think they always have that doll / toy like quality that keeps them from looking like a high end piece even though they have paint apps that are by far the best out there.

After seeing in hand photos of the P1 I am really happy that I did not get it. Just not a fan of HT's predators.

Then I thought about the SS 1/5 maquette but waited for in hand shots. Looks like I dodge another bullet.

I then decided to give the Neca Predator another look. I have come to this thread many times over the past year looking at the photos. Always being amazed at the quality but I held off because I refused to believe that a toy could look that good in person. Well now that I have it....Yeah it looks that good in person. Is it perfect?? No. It could use better paint apps and I wish I the pose was a tad better. But this is a sculpt that if turned into an actual statue with great pant apps better pose it would be the only Predator item you would need IMO.

Sure it sucks to have to get three different figures to have all the heads. But even after you do that you still are only paying about the same as one HT figure. Now HT does win the base/accessories/articulation battle. However Neca kills in the likness/size area and like I said, I like statues and thus this is the item for me.

Is it a keeper? As of now....Yes. Until SS does a kick *** PF and gets it right as opposed to their Predator 1/5 scale.

Anyways JMO.

Like Loricstone and JAWS above have already mentioned these are quality pieces that attract the eye in a larger display. I have Enterbay , Hot Toy and Premium Format and these don't look one piece out of place next to them.

If you like to "play" with your stuff then fine, the Hot Toy is better suited but really a bunch of extra plastic bits and mandibles that fit in big gashes on his face don't really make the Hot Toy anymore of a serious collectible than the NECA. It's just another smaller version of the character.

I have both, I much prefer the NECA's. They have a greater presence and fit in with my bigger pieces. Like JAWS mentions a lot of collectors just display the pieces they have like statue's and these NECA's fit perfectly with that style.

It's cool having lots of extra's and "bits" but not much point if the City Hunter doesn't actually look anything like the City Hunter....:dunno
 
Here is a quick wip I did for the base. It's not done. I have more skulls on the way and would like to add blood to the rock that the spine/skull is on. I also need to add a layer of green on the bottom and actually place the moss in better. This was just a quick start to get a feel for how it would look. What do you guys think? Any suggestions?? Mind you my skills are slim to none :)

Nice work JAWS! How about some fluorescent green paint on the leaves or rocks to give it that predator feel!!

I'm working on something for City Hunter but it's a bit more difficult since it should really involve buildings or concrete of some sort to keep it movie relevant.

I'm toying with the idea of making the part of the building he stands on when he rips jerry's skull off but I think it would make him too big!!!
 
I just got my FIRST 1/4 NECA Predator last night. I missed out on HT's Guardian Pred so Gort's who I snagged from the shop.

I just read the previous comments and I agree with those who say that this can actually compare to the presence an expensive PF exudes on the shelf, at 70% less of a PF's usual price tag.

Man I might have to make room for these guys as I might get more, having my eye on a P1, and the unmasked P2. Saw all 3 versions of it at the same store and I love it, my only wish it that NECA used the same ball joint they now have on the legs from the very beginning.

Thanks! Yeah I thought about the flurecent green paint. I am leaning towards that.

I am happy I don't have to tackle a Pred 2 base. I would not even know where to start. Be sure to post pics when you get going.
 
Hey, I just got a 1/4 scale closed mouth P1, love it. Does anyone make a helmet to go with it? Something that could be put on the figure.

i make the bio's, but will not fit the head as mandibles protrude too far, but its fine for poses/dios

Fellow freaks ashkanls and georgieboy26 makes great Bio masks but they don't fit over the face.


Problem is is that any mask that is to fit over the actual face is going to be too big. Even on the real Stan Winston predator.
 
Re: Neca 1/4 Predator

Does anyone know where you can get stands for the extra heads like in this photo or something close to it?? Right now I am using on of the 1/6 figure stands but it's not the best.
