I've been saying all along HT needs to nail the likenesses of these guys. They cost a lot and fans that get this stuff love film accurate figures. The new classic is by far their best effort and I can't wait to get him.
i like the Classic, but i'm still on the fence deciding whether to get him. there isn't much point since i'm not getting the other Predators figures. i'm more of a Stan Winston fan than a Predator fan really. so i think i'm just gonna stick to SWS creatures like the P1 and the P2 lost clan. and i'm not gonna bother with the hassle of trying to convert the Classic to a P1. if HT remakes the P1, i'll get that. but i still don't think they will.
Still though how many higher quality 200+ dollar 19 inch Predators could we really sell? Didn't HT do like 500 of the Elder world wide? I know the lost Pred was discounted at Hastings for only 110 last year. Makes me think it didn't do so well and how many did HT make?
no, there were definitely more than 500 Elders made, dude. it was super easy to get. HT was a smaller operation back then but they still made figures in the thousands. and the Elder took forever to sell out anywhere and got put on clearance just like the Lost did. its popularity in the secondary market isn't really due to manufactured rarity. i think it's just because it's a memorable/iconic character and nobody wants to get rid of theirs. plus, 1:6 scale collecting has exploded in just the last couple years and most of those older HT figures are on a crazy demand curve now. you guys might want to jump on that wagon at some point. there's plenty of $$ to be made. just saying.
NECA has to pay much more for me and the others workers. We live in the USA and the company has to sell more than HT and make more which there 200 dollar figure money wise goes further for them then it would for us. I know fans on here would get the high end stuff but really how many of us are out there? If HT could sell 15000 P1 figures at 150 dollars I bet they would. Only having like 1000 makes the higher price more OK because it's more for die hard collectors which are few and far between than the casual collector. Maybe we'll move into trying it some.
like i said earlier, it's a quality issue. look at it this way - back in the day, Sideshow was pretty much the only really big high-end figure company. then HT, and Enterbay, and ThreeA, etc turned up. there's more 1:6 collectible companies being created almost every year. so, there's no denying the market for high quality stuff is there. but they know what high-end collectors expect and they meet the demand. if NECA can meet the quality we expect, you get our patronage. if you don't want to play with the big boys, that's fine, there's plenty of other companies for us to choose from now. however, NECA has the advantage of employing some of the best sculptors in the business, hands down. the high-end collectors appreciate that much more than the casual collectors do in your market and you know it. we want what we see in those nice prototype pics, and we're more than willing to pay for that, not the dinky little toys they end up as on the shelf. if you gotta make super limited quantities and sell at high prices to do that, go crazy. we're used to it.
Only two of us at work get HT figures and 7 of us are toy collectors. The other guys get He Man, Star Wars, Iron Man and such. Most of it is low end and our guys love some of the HT stuff but they just don't want to pay the big price tag. Much more toy guys will go after affordable figures while die hards like me will spend more to get more. I look at the nice Iron Man figures from Mattel or is it Hasbro and think OK they look good but if I get an iron Man I'm going after the HT figure. Only one or two others in the shop would do that and we're all toy geeks.
It's just a harder sell going high end and I'd love for us to get into it. For now after seeing CA I can't help but think man that kicked butt and HT did a beautify figure and I must get it. The new Batman looks great and the latest Classic Predator is in the same boat and as a fan myself I'm excited to get these guys. If only they'll redo Alien though because that figure needs a way better likeness.
you're preaching to the choir on the Alien thing. i have over 40 HT/Sideshow figures and maybe 15 NECA figures now. i'll go for quality every time if possible. it's just a matter of who makes what.

How do you think our painters feel? They bust ass on these and at least the sculpts still come out nice. I hear what your saying because I wish fans could get what the two ups are.

I'm worried about P2 and Borgs heads paint wise.

I feel the same way about the 7 inch figures. Give me 18 or 12 any day. I remember going out to McFarlane in summer of 99 and seeing the first 18 test shots and thinking WOW. This is what I want for myself and F the 7 inch figures. Still though a lot of fans love the affordable 7 inch figures while guys like us really want great looking bigger detailed sculptures. I'm looking at this neat Elder right now and behind him stands the P1 19 inch figure. The Elder is looking at me and saying me too.

I'm trying to imagine all the 2 up Losties displayed on a Shelf with P2 and Elder in the middle.:D I understand how your company works and why these have to be shrunk down to 7 inch figures though. All that hard work put into the sculpts and protos is wasted when it could be something potentially brilliant and makes us go 'wow'.

where is gort predator? :monkey2
that's him on the far left in the first pic, out of frame. next to the Shaman. and it looks like his armor is the wrong color... i think when i get it, i'm just gonna swap the head out on a P2 figure.

I thought it was city hunter :dunno
nope, gort. there haven't been any city hunter pics since sdcc. those are all lost clan preds that just recently got finished. gort is supposed to have the same body as P2/city hunter but NECA changed the coloring for some reason.

I thought it was:

Yes, I will, I was just too tired to do so last night. Btw, did you ever see my question a few pages back asking about the separation of duties between painters and sculptors?

Our painters usually put together the 2 ups which is cool with me because it's fun to see how they might pose them. I was giving one of the crap about Borg being so straight up and down. He did a great job on the painting of the figure and really didn't want to hear me rag on him about the pose. The toy will be able to pose a lot anyway so who cares I guess.

Does Borg have that knife in the movie that they put on that figure? If so, I needs to make one for my HT Lost Pred.

Tuesday I'll have a better comparison, but so far I think the dog by NECA is not going to be too large or large enough to go next to HT's Tracker.

yep, it's just hard to see. i wish HT just would've included it with the Shadow pred instead of throwing the Elder knife in there again.

edit - if you're making it, make enough for everybody. or just me, i want one.

Thank you for doing that. I never could figure out where people were thinking the NECA hound would be sufficient size to go with HT's tracker.

I will keep you in mind P :hi5:
