I inherited a few Beatles LPs in mono. Believe me, go with stereo. The reason purists say mono is because most of their albums were originally recorded in mono and they think that's the way they should be listened to. Same as some purists are moving back to LP. Screw that!

I'll have to check these cds out!

easy, Vinyl does sound better. It's more rich than a CD can ever be, if you have the same album on both Cd and Vinyl you'll hear more on the Vinyl. Vinyl is the closest you can get to the original source material and a lot of times digital is too harsh.

why do you want to beat me?:monkey2 is it my old people phobia? man i'm gonna really hate myself in a few years if i can't get over my phobia.

stereo is definately the way to go. The reason the Beatles stayed around for the mono mixing is because they knew that, that was the main formate and if that is screwed up then it ruined everything.

Honestly i'm looking forward to hearing the drums mixed more naturally and not in just one speaker. When the Beatles first started recording there were only 4 tracks so they used to connect two 4 track machines together and then all the drums would get mixed down onto one track, this is why it's in one speaker.

I can't wait to hear these recordings in stereo, i'm very excited.

I read somewhere an interview with Ringo remarking that there were bits of his drumming he had thought were lost in the original mixes and he was quite amazed to hear them still in there on these new mixes. So I think you may be happy with that.

Vinyl maybe be better, but it's harder to keep in great condition and over time loses it's sound.

Here's another whack just to help you get over your phobia!

:thwak

Only if you don't care for your stuff. My dad just gave me his entire LP collection - there's about 1500 albums - and while the sleeves are not in the best condition the vinyl itself is still great and they sound fantastic, it's all in the care and if you're an audiophile then LP's are still the way to go.

By the way one of the LP's I got was a Beatles LP that is on the Veejay lable and is worth over $6,000.00. I framed it!

If you play a record alot, it's not going to sound as good as the first play. If you don't play them often, then I'm sure they would be good. I have albums that look great, but they still lack in the sound from so many plays.

You also have to worry about needles, arm balance, all that. I won't buy another LP unless it's unavailable on CD.

Does anyone have a USB turntable? I'm thinking of getting one.

no but i realy want one. I'm a dj so my turntables are Techniques and my needles are about $160.00 a piece - they are very nice. stuff sounds great on it.

i would love to get some of my vinyl into my ipod though.

yeah, so, I am still undecided between the stereo and mono versions of the box sets.

I am kinda leaning towards the mono versions now. And, getting the stereo versions later on.

Then again, maybe I should wait on both as I read rumors that they are re-doing them yet again, in 5.1 sound...anyone else hear about this?

I've only heard about them redoing the Yellow Submarine movie in 5.1.

the new song they put out couple years ago...free as a bird was crappy.Sorry but its the truth.

Its a good song, but they went wrong when they chose Jeff Lynn to produde it. He made the song sound like ELO.
