Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

be interested to see if you can achieve a 70s or 80s look for Tom Bakers figs. I don't know exactly how to explain it, but I know it when I see it.

I'll be watching a couple of stories from that era in the next couple of days so I'll see if can pick up on what you mean.

In the meantime,

Overall I think the QC on the Classic Daleks is a bit mixed, some are really good but others have a few paint issues and the eye stalks don't fit 100% perfectly.

I'm not sure if I'll be getting another adventure set myself but I'll keep an eye out for someone selling a spare one and can either let you know or I'll snap it up and you can Paypal me the cash.

Valfar,
Glad you like the pics, though I've seen them plenty of times in stores I'd not seen one of those voice control Daleks in action before, they look pretty cool!

SSSSssshhhhhh......

I know this is sacrilege, and I don't wish to offend anyone, but I've never liked the Pertwee era. IM(very)HO the whole idea of UNIT and the character of the Doctor in this time is too derivative of Bond, The Avengers and shows like Adam Adamant, and something about Pertwee just puts me off. He's too 'clubbable' too much of an establishment figure, and above all too human.

The show's been around nearly 50 years with 11 Doctors, I think it would be pretty hard for a fan to like EVEYTHING about it, no matter how big of a fan they are if they are being honest with themselves. We're all friends here, so thanks for being honest and sharing your opinion. There's always bound to be Doctors/eras someone doesn't like as much as the others.

Personally I can't stand to sit through most Colin and Sly tv eps (though they went on to shine in many BF audios. I always felt it was their TV stories I hated, not the actors), and have never been that fond of Hartnell as well. And Tennants run for me has been very hit and miss. Talk about a Doctor acting "too human"...

BCM77 likes him though... ;)

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

If by "like" you mean would "like" to stick a hot poker up his arse and pull his tongue out through his navel, then yes. He definitely "likes" him. :lol

In fairness to the man DT has only been doing what he's told like any professional so if anything my real anger is with RTD & the writers and I think they're as responsible as anyone for the 10th Doctor being the one I'd most like to punch.

If years from now he does an interview blasting RTD & co for giving him crap material to work with I will be the first to applaud him because in the last couple of series the writing has been so bad that nobody could have made the stories more watchable.

I was just taking pics of Admiral Piett and decided I would take another pic of how I have my Docs arranged currently.

Marc if you ever get bored of your Classic TARDIS please let me know :naughty

Having said that I wonder if the cancelled Character Options one has any chance of being resurrected as an FPI Exclusive?

It wouldn't be cheap but it would seem a no brainer for a limited release through a collector store and the same goes for Bessie.

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

It is an alternate way of releasing things outside of the shops that I think they are beginning to realize is making the dough.

Indeed they are, the B&W Hartnell & Troughton sets, the 4th Doctor adventure set and the newest Dalek 3-pack have all sold out at FPI which bodes well for any future ones providing they can keep a good mixture of all new releases along with the inevitable Dalek repaints and other easy rereleases.

The developments with FP make me wonder if that interview from the CO guy a while back with all that nonsense about no companions and that they didn't care about collectors was complete crap because every Classic figure released this year outside of the Cybermen has been through FPI so either that interview was BS or the person who was in charge at the time has been replaced with someone that's not so naive in terms of recognising the potential profits from a collector oriented Classic line.

The classics are likely made in far fewer numbers than the new series figures. The latter is a true mass market range and the collector impact is negligible there. I do think CO is probably surprised how strongly the collectors market turned out for the classic figures, but the revenue difference between the two lines is probably night and day in favor of the new series.

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

Awesome stuff Valfar!
There's been several of those Tom Baker sketches and all are awesome, Tom was actually in one of them and he was cracking up with laughter at how good the impression was.

Another one is called "Christmas with the Doctors" and has several of the past Doctors mocking the 10th and they end up putting a sign on him which says "Exterminate Me" :rotfl:rotfl:rotfl

I had an incredibly good result on the figure front today, I discovered a UK discount store called BM Bargains is selling the first Classic Dalek 3-pack for an insanely good £6.99 ( original price was £19.99 ) so I got a couple and I might get some more when I've a bit more cash.

I'd been wanting some more "Genesis" Daleks but didn't want to pay £20 as I wasn't overly bothered about extras of the others but I think I'll keep the "Dead Planet" ones as well as I don't forsee there being that many figures from the Hartnell era unless the line runs for a number of years ( fingers crossed! )

If anyone wants the other 2 Supreme Daleks from "Planet of the Daleks" then send me a PM.

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

Just used my new narrow shouldered TT body on my David Tennant figure and it looks a lot better. The clothes fit nicely but the only problem was getting the head off the original body and on to the TT. I had to scrape out the inside of his neck to make the whole bigger. :O
