Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

I don't collect these little guys, but I gotta try and get my hands on that Master. I like that they gave him the sash of Rassilon.

It could potentially get reused on an "Invasion of Time" 4th Doctor in Time Lord ceremonial attire though at this point I think one of those is about as likely as any companions or a Roger Delgado Master...............it's probably not going to happen.

CO make great, even outstanding figures but appear to be very narrow minded when it comes to character choices even now the option of marketing them to older collectors in more limited production runs exists through the FPI relationship.

Remember its not CO. It's the retailers who are getting a say in what/who gets made.

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

I'm gutted I couldn't get hold of these today. It's looking like Tuesday or Wednesday next week now.

In fact, it's been a bad day for toy action in general. My Medicom Vader arrived today (good) but I was out (bad) but they delivered it next door (good) but now they're out (bad)!

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

That's "how" not "what". Missi said numerous times that they would love to do classic everything. But they take ideas to retailers to gauge interest. If they don't like something it will never see production. Unfirtunately retailers don't see classic companions as marketable. If we ever do see them it is likely to be because some retailer will fund/distribute it as an exclusive.

And I think it's a patented mistake when you let retailers decide what exactly will come out. I can see Bessie and the like but if you have a wave of six figures, and one of those six is a companion and you throw in an army builder figure to balance out the duplicate slot, that figure WILL sell.

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

I think one obvious option for a companion is make it a build a figure or failing that, put it in a pack with 3 repaints/retools.

A freak who doesn't post here much anymore )abstractharmony) just posted a few pictures on Gallifrey Base of the Ice Warrior, Master and Cyberman. He has a ton more shots but these are the cream of the crop:

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

It seems that CO have sculpted Roger Delgado's suit under The Master's cloak which to me seems to be a great big FU to collectors that they won't be doing the real thing.

My enthusiasm for this line lessens by the day.

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

I think my eyes would probably do that if CO ever do something remotely risky in terms of character choices though I think right now I'd sooner they released the remaining Doctors and let somebody else have the Classic license because it's clear that CO aren't 100% committed to it.

Brendan makes pix sad. :(

Sorry Marc, I'm just fed up of seeing a line so shoddily handled and CO constantly raising a middle finger to fans of certain characters.

The only saving grace CO have is that what little that does get released is pretty damn good for the most part but it's getting to the point where certain characters are clearly not in their plans and as a result I'm losing intrest.

I couldn't really care less about the other Doctors but what's a Classic line without Davros, The Brigadier or at least 1 companion PER DOCTOR? Half assed.

And considering The Master was the 3rd Doctors most iconic adversary he should have been the first version made but no, we get the decayed version with Delgado's suit sculpted at least partially to remind us they could have made the effort and got the image rights but clearly don't want to.

Say what you will about Hasbro but at least they know how to market the Star Wars line to all demographics, focusing on kid friendly releases during the movie/other big media event years and giving the older collectors some of the obscure characters in "gap" years. CO haven't an f'ing clue.

Seeing those pics makes me sad because I can't get that Master or Ice Warrior in 1/6. :monkey2

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

Yeah there's even less chance of 1:6 versions of those characters.

If Sideshow got the Who licence they'd probably fob customers off with lame excuses for 2 or 3 years then decide they couldn't make them and go running to Hot Toys for help :naughty

Enduring.

We are not CO's customers. Retailers are. Retailers don't want these things, because kids won't buy them. The exception to your list is Davros, but then again kids already have a Davros figure, so there's no point in making a classic one for the mass market.

The only way we're going to get these is if specialty retailers step up to the plate and commission them as exclusives. But that's probably not going to happen for most of them, and looking at the business model for the exclusives should give you a good idea why. They can't amortize that entirely new Leela sculpt without repainted variants - but there are no variants that can be made with that costume! Blue eyes, perhaps, but then who's going to drop another $30 on that?

And considering The Master was the 3rd Doctors most iconic adversary he should have been the first version made but no, we get the decayed version with Delgado's suit sculpted at least partially to remind us they could have made the effort and got the image rights but clearly don't want to.

These are mass market toys. That means they're aimed at kids. Kids don't know these characters, but they'll buy monsters with the Doctor Who logo on them. The decayed Master looks like a monster. It will sell.

What on earth do you think the classics line is?! :duh

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

Well I know personally once I get all the Doctors, I'm pretty much out. Can't army build Daleks easily, prices keep going up, just feeling very meh on this line overall.

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

I am in this line for the long haul. I have wanted these since 1979. No way I will ever get "meh" about it.

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

I dont wanna be meh about it.. but these huge dry spells, lack of information even AFTER official publications show the stuff off. And why is it so hard to release single packed Daleks so you can army build? There's just so many missteps in my mind that it's sad. And again, PRICE. If I had to choose between the 2 packs for $40 or one of the MOTUC figures.. the MOTUC seems a better deal. Better articulation, better sculpting, great paint apps. Makes you wonder what a company like Mattel could do with Who.
