Re: New Tomarts Magazine Says...

The pose was an obvious one due to display space restrictions. It allows the twin lightsabers to be ignited and not stick out to the sides like a television antenae.

I really like the pose from the side, though from the front does look a little like he's taking a bow. This may well be my first SW PF purchase, so I'm looking forward to better pics from Toy Fair.

As for an exclusive, why not a second, more serious headsculpt?... (Yoda/Luke gave us the helmeted Luke as an exclusive.)

***Seretur, you have exceeded your monthly posting alottment, bro, and all in one thread... ;)

The arm pose that's been identified as a classic dance finish is derived from T'ai Chi Chuan....as is most of Darth Maul's movement. Maul uses the double light saber just like a kun.

Remember when everybody was saying the PF Obi's left foot was crooked? Also classic combat stance. Whenever you think you've caught Sideshow in a battle pose mistake, it usually means they've done their homework...and you haven't. They seem to be doing much more than just studying frame captures.

This is true. The pose looked odd to me at first which is why I said it didn't stike me at first but the more I look at it the more I really like it.

Re: New Tomarts Magazine Says...

It's not very big but I believe I've found backside of the part where this came from.

Re: New Tomarts Magazine Says...

Hmm..

So it sounds lke the pose is accurate to the world of martial arts, allows the double bladed lightsaber to be ignited while still fitting in most displays, and can accomodate the future addition of possible Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon PFs or simply stand on its own.

So I think they did a good job!

Re: New Tomarts Magazine Says...

I don't mind the pose, it's the head sculpt that looks bad to me. If he comes with his hood and his face can be covered, I might consider it.

Re: New Tomarts Magazine Says...

Alex, I so have, haven't I? Can't help it, Maul was love at first sight. :D

The announcement in tomorrow's (or next week's) newsletter will seem inevitably anticlimactic, but Sideshow's official pictures, for all the flak they are getting, might turn a few opinions around yet.

Thank you so much for this!

Re: New Tomarts Magazine Says...

Here's a pic. Now he's holding the saber in a different hand but it appears to be the pose the statue is reversed.

Re: New Tomarts Magazine Says...

stand in front of a mirror and recreate the 1:4 Maul's pose... Ray Park deserves better!

Re: New Tomarts Magazine Says...

I wonder if the exclusive might be light up sabers. I know some of the exclusives in the Marvel Vs. line were additional electronics.

Re: New Tomarts Magazine Says...

Gotta say... I'm a bit underwhelmed by this piece. The face sculpt and the pose both bug me a little. Of course I'll reserve ultimate judgement until seeing this at TF... but as of right now it ain't my fave.

I agree!!

He deserves a LOT better than someone as out of shape as I am trying to impersonate him in front of a mirror.

Re: New Tomarts Magazine Says...

Josh I was thinking of that when I first saw that pose, also isnt there a point in the film where the saber is behind his back and he has his arm forward using force to throw something? I cant quite remeber and I dont have the movie with me.

Yeah, I believe so. I've looked through a ton of screen caps and can't find the one I go that's it. I've found several where it could be it or where they've mixed a couple shots.

But both Vader and Obi regulars light up. I would expect all Jedi/Sith to have light up sabers.
