Why wouldn't he..Romo can be worshipped in Cleveland, what QB there would compete against him. He can be an instant star though
Romo isn't in it for the worship and adoration.
And be in the worst organization in the league and get beat to hell with no shot at the playoffs.
^This. Romo has already made tons of money, he's been the starting QB for one of the most storied franchises in all professional sports...at this point he wants to win a championship.
His best bet is Denver. Unless Trevor Siemian leads the Broncos to a 4-0 record over the Titans, Patriots, Chiefs, and Raiders, and into at least the divisional round of the playoffs, John Elway has to at least consider the move. Paxton Lynch isn't ready, and Romo would be an upgrade over Siemian. Denver's D is ferocious, and on offense they have some playmakers. Romo would have another stud 88 receiver in Demaryius Thomas, a 1B receiver in Emmanuel Sanders, and some other young talent at receiver. CJ Anderson would be back from injury, hopefully 100% to keep the pressure off Romo. And I think he would be inclined to renegotiate/accept less money to go to a contender.
From Dallas' standpoint, sure they could trade him and get draft picks, but from all indications, Jerry Jones and his family love Romo. Maybe they'd do right by him and release him outright. Conventional wisdom says to trade a former player at least out of the division, IF not out of the conference outright (Bill Belichick and Andy Reid bucked conventional wisdom when trading Drew Bledsoe and Donovan McNabb within their respective divisions to Buffalo and Washington). The Jets need a QB, but why would Romo want to go there while the Patriots have a stranglehold on the division. Chicago needs a QB, as by all indications tis will be Cutler's last year there. Romo has
some ties as he went to Northern Illinois...but again, Romo doesn't necessarily put that team over the top in that division.
One intriguing thought is Arizona. Carson Palmer is still under contract to 2018, I believe, but still...
So it's all about the Running backs and receivers for the Heisman this year
Well, in all fairness, wining the Heisman doesn't translate into success in the NFL.
The list from 2000 (Arbitrary starting point I picked):
-2000 Chris Weinke, Florida State, QB (started for Carolina, no Pro Bowls, average NFL QB at best, now a QB coach...forgot which team, but I saw him on an episode of Hard Knocks...maybe the Rams)
-2001 Eric Crouch, Nebraska, QB (Don't remember him in the league)
-2002 Carson Palmer, USC, QB (Still playing, multiple Pro Bowls...NFL success by all indications)
-2003 Jason White, Oklahoma, QB (Don't remember him in the league)
-2004 Matt Leinart, USC, QB, (Started for Arizona, no Pro Bowls, average NFL QB at best)
-2006 Troy Smith, Ohio State, QB (I could be wrong, I think he started a few games for the Ravens, no Pro Bowls, average NFL QB at best)
-2007 Tim Tebow, Florida, QB (Started for Denver, made playoffs, no Pro Bowls, average NFL QB at best...and I'm being kind. Good athlete, not a pro QB)
-2008 Sam Bradford, Oklahoma, QB (Started for St. Louis, Philadelphia, and now Minnesota, no Pro Bowls yet, and unless he finds a system/team that fits him, he's an average NFL QB at best)
-2009 Mark Ingram, Alabama, RB (RB for New Orleans...is he currently starting? Serviceable RB, but no superstar)
-2010 Cam Newton, Auburn, QB (Starting QB for Carolina, Pro Bowls, playoffs, Super Bowl appearance...he's a success)
-2011 Robert Griffin III, Baylor University, QB (Started for Washington and Cleveland, playoff appearance in his rookie year...I think that's as good as it gets for him)
-2012 Johnny Manziel, Texas A&M, QB (Uhhh...BUST)
-2013 Jameis Winston, Florida State, QB (Jury's still out, but looking pretty good in Tampa Bay)
-2014 Marcus Mariota, Oregon, QB (Jury's still out, looking decent/good in Tennessee)
-2015 Derrick Henry, Alabama RB (Jury's still out, teaming with Demarco Murray to give a pretty good 1-2 punch at RB for the Titans)
