I think Alex Smith unfairly gets the game manager label. Remember he led the Chiefs to a 28 point lead on the road at Indianapolis in the 2014 playoffs, only to lose when Andrew Luck rallied the Colts. Smith threw for 378 yards and four TDs in a losing effort.

The Chiefs have always been a dark horse candidate. I said that last year as well. Remember, they went to NE with an 11 game winning streak in the divisional round last year and played New England tough. They only lost by a TD. They had outgained the Pats, had more first downs, and had a 15 minute advantage in time of possession...but lost the turnover battle, 1-0, when Knile Davis fumbled in Patriot territory at the NE 31.

The Chiefs aren't sexy. The Patriots are the Patriots. The Broncos are the reigning Super Bowl champion. The Raiders light it up offensively, and their "return to greatness" narrative is pretty enthralling. It's easy to overlook the Chiefs. Tyreek Hill may be the difference maker. In recent years, they haven't had a big time game breaker at receiver to stretch the field. They have a game breaker in Jamaal Charles, but he's been hobbled by injuries and opposing defenses can key on him until the Chiefs prove they can complete a few passes downfield.

The Chiefs biggest obstacle to post-season success is still Andy Reid. Yes, they on;y lost by 7 to the Pats last year, but that last 7 they scored was with 1:13 left essentially garbage time. Hell, with 1:40 left and the clock running they were still huddling! They have a great defense and a serviceable offense, but I just don't think they can overcome the coaching.

Now that you mention that, I do remember watching incredulously as they ran their "two minute" drill and I think a few of us even live posted at the same time. They did manage to get into NE territory on six straight possessions, I believe.

Looking at the three teams that will probably be the biggest challenge to NE (which coincidentally are all from the AFC West), Oakland has the offense but not the consistent defense (Khalil Mack is on bad mutha, though), Denver has the defense but not the consistent offense, and Kansas City probably has the best combination of the two. I know we still have four weeks of jockeying for position and making it in, but I can't wait until the playoffs.

Deflategate Part II starring the Pittsburgh Steelers?

I'm sure the league will be quick, thorough, and completely transparent in this matter.:rolleyes2

Stafford is a bulldog, but man is Detroit so inconsistent every week despite the record and division lead. :lecture

You know Titans have got a growing defense and Mariotta. Why do they have lousy season records:dunno

So with Skins winning. I guess Giants still control their playoff destiny

The Texans are going to be worst team going into the playoffs. Their season record schedule was practically given to them :pfft:

Too bad with this Saints game with Tampa because of the record this is a meaningless game for Saints, still won't even make it into the WC :(
