Mike Smith has come a long way from giving up goals on Dennis Seidenberg dump ins.

One step closer to an LA/Phoenix WCF.:yess:

I didn't think the Preds would go out so easily. :ohbfrank:

And ____ty ratings. :lol

Who cares about ____ty ratings? Gary Bettman and the NHL gave up that ghost the minute they left Espn for Versus (NBC Sports).

Caps/Rangers....Here we go!

Make or break for the Caps.

Caps.....Yes! :yess:

Say what you will about NBC, but they have tried to get people excited about hockey. Having every playoff game covered was a huge step.

I think NBC has done an outstanding job in their coverage. It helps they have another platform (cnbc) so they can cover all games.

But you must admit that the NHL going over to OLN/Versus years ago was a complete joke. Folks couldn't even find that channel and that's if their provider carried them.

Say what you want about Espn but most hotels/bars have their channels tuned in to them. Their 24/7 exposure was a huge loss to the NHL. Watch Espn Sportscenter and the NHL is usually the last segment except playoffs time. Go to Espn.com and you'd think the NHL doesn't even exist.

Poor Barry Melrose.....he's like a king without an empire. :lol

Yeah, I've been very impressed. And actually being able to see every game, rather than highlights, has gotten me a lot more emotionally invested in every series.

I agree with you that ESPN is everywhere. As far as as sports media they're the 800 pound gorilla that can drive a sports story or ignore it for the public. In the mid-90s the NHL was a pretty big part of their portfolio. They had games on both networks, really ESPN2 was hockey at night and the parent company owned the Ducks.

It seemed to me there was a shift around 2002 when ESPN got the NBA. More and more the NHL was being relegated to being a second class citizen. When the strike happened not only did Disney dump the Ducks, they dropped the NHL from their networks.

NBC has bent over backwards for the NHL, covered the Olympics extensively, and now have the Worlds covered. It's just something ESPN could never do with the amount of stuff they cover for the NBA, MLB and NFL. I do however miss the NHL on ESPN theme music.

Anyone catch Tort's post game presser? I've watched this guy act like a baby for years, but today he seriously needed a pacifier.
