the obesity issue IS a cultural and economic problem. an american cultural problem. as a culture, we promote working our ***** off, at every waking hour, and afford ourselves 2 weeks out of the year to escape from the grind. people are extending themselves well beyond what they are healthily designed to do, due to the conveniences of our current society. we can drive to work, teleconference our meetings, ftp our files, get lunch in 10 minutes......what should realistically open up more time to say, ummmm, exercise, is being filled with longer work hours, responsibilities, and surely not sleep. and the work has gotten more sedentary with computers.
and we have a population where we have to take shortcuts to actually supply enough food for it. pesticides, hormones, gmo's, and on and on and on. deceptive marketing and an unknowing of whats actually happening where the food is being sourced makes it difficult for people to truly be healthy.
even people who THINK they are trying to be healthy are probably ingesting pesticide laden fruits and veggies, or hormone juiced meats that at some point probably end up in a cancer treatment bill.
basically, we've designed a terribly unhealthy lifestyle culture in exchange of being the wealthiest nation on the planet. as a whole, we dont value health on any level. but we complain about it. and we put it on everyone else when it's time to pay the tab.
until any of that changes, all this other stuff is just asinine. i mean, really? dont ingest that 64 oz'er of suger, but have at that aspartame......cause that hasnt been shown to be linked to very expensive illness'
