The problems with increasing minimum wage is it's entirely redundant. While those working jobs that pay out minimum wage want more money, every single time California has increased it's minimum wage, the cost of living went up; rent, food, etc. Then they pine for another increase, and guess what? Same ____. Cost of living goes up. So while those getting paid minimum wage continually get increases, the rest who get paid above minimum wage, see no increase as their employers are dedicating profits to cover the bottom line increase, but see their own cost of living increase. It's a vicious cycle that really doesn't get anywhere. Honestly, if someone doesn't like minimum wage, instead of demanding that wage be increased, get off their ***** and work harder to move up in their chosen profession, or find better employment.

That's why it's a tricky thing. Cost of living can go up with no control..but wages can't and normally won't. As a small business owner I completely understand wage issues...you want to provide but you don't want to bankrupt the company.

They aren't paying the bills. They are stealing from us, playing healthcare messiah with our money, and then treating all of us as if we need the same discipline as their indigent, grovelling pets.

I meant they pay the bills with our tax money..should have made that clearer. We want to hold the govt accountable..why don't we do the same with our population? Are we proud of the obese, sick people that dominate our country? And as you said..we are paying their healthcare bills cause they are lazy.

As nam said, these people are too stupid to look after themselves. Sometimes the govt has to step in. Its the tobacco thing all over again...how many people said smoking was healthy, how many women smoked and lost babies....in this day and age it seems archaic.

Drinking gallons of soda is unhealthy. Some people are too stupid to realize that. Those same people drink and drink and drink....then get sick and want you and me to pay for their insulin shots cause they never knew soda was bad for you. These are adults..not children.

We should not be dragged down to the level of our obese and lazy. Our govt has education levels..do you question those? We have presidential fitness awards..are those bad? Our govt should not make it easier for people to get sick/fat/lazy/stupid.

Do you think seatbelt laws are stupid? Should kids be allowed to buy booze and cigarettes? Should we do away with all safety recalls? Should all SIDS studies be ignored and parents told put their babies face down to sleep? No more baby seats? Govtcant tell us what's good for us? Shoud we allow asbestos to be used again? People are stupid..they need guidance.

again..I'm torn on this...yes it's a stupid bill, but half our country is stupid.

Being told you can't buy a big soda is being dragged down to the level of the fat and lazy. Paying for their healthcare is being dragged down to a level beneath them. They are not expected to pay for the consequences of their unhealthiness. You are.

And yes, I question our government's educational standards. You have noticed the number of complete and utter ____ing idiots in this country, right? Do Presidential fitness awards do any kind of good for those who don't win them? Does forbidding kids to not smoke or buy alcohol stop kids from smoking or buying alcohol? Have you noticed the epidemic of prescription drug use amongst teens in this country? What law stopped them? Would doctors have been able to discover SIDS without government studies?

What else...oh yeah, seatbelts. No, it's not stupid to wear a seatbelt. Do I need a law to tell me that? Did the law stop me from getting in fatal accidents while I wasn't wearing my seatbelt?

Why don't we have laws against looking down the barrel of a gun? Is it illegal to swim in a pirhana tank? What about running with scissors?

Cost of living "can" go up, but always does when minimum wage increases as there's a guaranteed incentive for price increases. The end result is the increase of minimum wage is the cause of the inflation it's attempting to relieve.

As a school teacher our standards need to be higher, need to get rid of teacher tenure, need strong national standards, etc. I won't get on that soap box long. We need to emphasize proper fitness for our citizens. Especially kids so maybe they take decent care of themselves and won't become a stress for our already crappy healthcare system. No, it doesn't stop them but it's better than saying go right ahead. So laws like that are better than not having them IMO.

Who knows if they would have. However, the government helping find these kinds of things is a good thing. It would be nice if they would help push to find cure for things like cancer through stem cell research but that's another soap box I won't get on. Yes, people need to told to wear seatbelts. You do sometimes have to protect people from themselves. My dad has run many calls over the years where seatbelts have saved lives so I have no problem withs laws like that.
