Yeah its a shame really that he is only in two of the films. I would love to see a prequel out of one of these new films that brought the Davy Jones character back. It seems Davy and Jack have more history than just that of their "deal". Would love to see another one with Jones.

While mystery has it's plusses, i'd love to see the transaction between Jack and Jones as it could sort of go a few ways from the DMC explanation.

Found this on wikipedia.

In the book series about Jack Sparrow's earlier adventures, Davy Jones shows interest in the Sword of Cortes, also sought by Jack. He is a minor character, but finally appears in the cliff-hanger ending to book 7 as Jack and his crew encounter the Flying Dutchman.

After Cutler Beckett sank Jack Sparrow's Wicked Wench, Davy Jones approaches Sparrow with a deal: Jones will raise the Wench back from Davy Jones' Locker, allowing Sparrow to be captain for 13 years if Sparrow agrees to serve on the Dutchman for 100 years. Sparrow agrees and the ship is raised, renamed by Sparrow as the Black Pearl.

I'd love for Jones to come back. They never really said what would happen to the Dutchman's captain after being released from his duties. I mean we all assumed he would die, but all of the other crew reverted back to thier human forms, perhaps Jones did too? I mean they did bring Barbossa back without much explanation, why not Jones too? :dunno

For a long time I though the Pearl was some old sunken ship that Jack heard about in myth and bargained with Jones, but then I got to thinking about what if it was another case of Jack having the Pearl already and losing it. That Wiki story sounds like it would make a cool movie.

Jones died after being stabbed in the heart by Will. I would assume the heart is what was keeping Jones alive, hence he would die.

But that's just it, we can only assume. They brought Barbossa back after we assumed he was dead. But I don't see anyone complaining about that. I don't think most would mind if they brought Jones back, fishy or human.

I don't know how much interesting stuff is left for them to explore.

The first one sort of worked the Treasure Island angle, we've already been given Krakens, ghost ships, voodoo, battles with EIT Co., snow and ice, mermaids, and now actual pirates like Blackbeard.

Really not sure what they could put into 5 and 6 that wouldn't feel done already.

While yes, there's no certainty that Jones dies, I think it was probably felt you didn't need to define it because of him flopping over the side of the Dutchman like a rag doll.

In the POTC universe, magic is abound and you can easily write some spell or whatever to bring him back.

I don't know why, but I don't feel like bringing Jones back in a post AWE film would be good, I just feel like his character would be in circumstances where he wouldn't quite be the Jones we enjoyed in 2 and 3. While Barbossa served good in 3, he was pretty much the same Barbossa we came to like in the first film.

I would love to see them do a prequel of the original Sparrow-Jones deal, then Davy would be the same, and we'd see an interesting story unfold as well.

Who says they have to explore new territory. If anything, retreading the same waters makes more sense. After awhile the mythological stuff will start to seem rediculous. With good writers, you can have just more pirates like Jack and Barbossa and Blackbeard and have an entertaining story. The key is good writing, if that's there, I really don't think there's a limit to how many movies they can make about Pirates that wouldn't be entertaining.

Not only that but we could see how Barbossa mutinied Jack as well. More fleshed out. I mean.

That too. Like I said, I appreciate the art of not showing those things, but at the same time, in the hands of good writers, you have to figure it could make for a really entertaining movie.

I want to add that the writers have already said that the movies cant get any bigger than that seen in AWE. So more character driven stories are what we are going to get with these next three films.

How awesome would it be if HT did a Mermaid as one of the figures for OST? Depending on how large a role the main mermaid has in the film, I think that would be an interesting addition.

But Im pretty sure we are getting Blackbeard and Angelica for sure. Hoping for Barbossa as well.

Well,
The main mermaid of hte movie can be seen with legs at one point, so unless she makes enough impact, I don't see HT figuring out how to make a mermaid figure for just a smaller role, especially when there are enough standard characters to make.

If done right, they could have a sequel that has a lot of flashbacks to those past events (jones, the pearl, the mutiny, etc). If they could have those events somehow tie into the current storyline (ie revenge for something, or looking for some treasure that tied into those events, etc) having lenghty flashbacks could work IMO. That way we'd get Jones back (and in fishy form), put together some of the stories from CotBP (you know you can't take Jack or Barbossa's word on what really happened). But it would haven to be well written to work. But I love the idea of a 'prequel' of sorts if handled like this. I think a straight prequel would be ill fitting otherwise.

Figure wise from OST, I would expect Barbossa and Blackbeard for sure. Angelica is a maybe right now IMO since HT's females have never been the hottest of sellers.

If they're smart, they'll hold of Angelica, if the movie and character do well, they can sell her later, espcially with some solid sales of popular males ahead of her, but if she were to be the next OST figure, this line will sink fast like the last pirates line. You have to be strategic with character selection. HT failed starting the last line with Jack and 2 versions of Sao Feng. Sideshow is STILL trying to sell of Sao Feng almost 4 years later.

Really, of what we've seen in the OST trailers, Blackbeard's the only other character that's got strong sales potential. Barbossa'll be a dud unless they can do his pirate costume. WIth that saide, I wouldn't be stunned if DX Jack were the only OST figure. Sure blackbeard would be cool for some, but with HT's past decisions, if you don't have many characters to do a line of them, why not just DX the sure fire character and move onto other films where you have a greater number of characters to make. OST has about 3 strong selling characters in it that we know of right now, Angelica's iffy and I don't see anyone else in the trailers as standouts, and if one of those 3 will only work with a sepcific costume, if you can't make it, your'e down to 2, or you can just do a solo release of the popular character, make some money off the film and move on.

I think Sao Feng got made because of Chow Yun Fat's popularity in Asia and nothing more.

Since we saw that Barbossa narrated trailer eariler in this thread, I would tend to think HT could potentially weasel their way into giving us a Pirate Barbossa based on that trailer. I would think promotional material is fair game. Heck, they might have snuck in an AWE accessory with the long telescope, which I doubt will return.

My solution would be to give us a DX Barbossa. Give us both outfits, swap out legs, two faces/heads, Jack the monkey, etc and I think most would bite. And depending on how they do it, we could possibly get two full figures with the old extra truetype gimmick. Worked for Thriller MJ.
