No, they started them because they wanted to. They started out as Toy Hunters exclusives and Sideshow was just able to get them to allow them to have the same exclusive. I don't have a clue where this new method came from though.

Hot Toys should not only keep the telescope as a US/Japan exclusive, they should ship out ALL the boxes with the packaging made especially for the long-telescope boxes, but with an empty space there instead of the telescope. That way we non-US/Japan collectors can be helpfully reminded every time we open the box that we have an inferior figure set.

I just thought they did it for SS and just extended it to TH because a lot of the other SS collectibles also have Exs so my assumption was SS started it and may have requested HT to do the same for them?

What's the point of an exclusive or a limited edition if everyone can get it?

Some people can not and will not get the telescope -- that's what's suppose to make you want it.

I have a feeling this telescope is going to be very readily available and fairly easy to get, regardless of the confusion now.

Hell yeah I'm so pumped to get the telescope. Regardless of what others say, I think it is one of the most exciting accessories for this release. It's massive and is going to look great with Jack standing near the wheel. It will really complete that pirate feel to it. As usual, thank goodness for America.

I just thought they made it a Hot Toys show exclusive and you could only pick it up at their anniversary show. I don't think it was sold in stores but I could be wrong.
