I went with BBTS. With the POL it'll cost around $5-10 more than through Angolz or AbcExpress, but with the peace of mind of solid customer care and a friendly return/replacement policy.

I also like that from BBTS, you can cancel a preorder without a penalty, at least with most of their items.

Slightly OT, I visited the actual Fountain of Youth in St. Augustine this weekend:

I drank the water (with its yucky sulfuric smell). Hasn't worked yet.

Really not impressed with the "Exclusive Telescope" BS.
When I pre-ordered it that was NOT made clear on SS page.

I don't even want the Telescope, it's pretty lame, but the principal of this is all wrong, are you listening HOT TOYS & SS. How to piss off a lot of fans very quickly. So I will let my wallet do my talking.

Well, you have seen some of the really dumb things Sideshow has made as exclusive items (especially for Star Wars) that people go crazy for so the fuss over a telescope doesn't surprise me at all.

I thought it was an exclusive which means not every retailer will receive it. As always, a matter of if you want it buy from someplace that will get it. If you don't want it buy from somewhere else. Not that big a deal IMO.

I agree with you, as I mentioned I actually think it looks pretty stupid. But I guess when you pre-order something and then they exclude you from part of the item for a ridiculous reason, then it becomes something negative.

Im just pissed on principle, couldn't give a rats ass about the telescope!

Exactly its the principle of the thing. Are we not worthy enough us in Europe and what are the likes of SSC and other retailers going to do, check everybody's Address to see who is and isn't allowed this piece.

Yeah chances are I won't even use this telescope. Good thing for all you'll outside of the U.S. And Japan, that it wasn't something awesome. The most important thing is that all of us are getting an awesome looking Jack Sparrow figure. The telescopes not that big of a deal.

Well this mess certainly proves the adage of nothing makes you want something more than knowing you can't have it.

I thought about the idea of a US person buying the figure, then sending it to someone who couldn't get the telescope. But I assume all that extra shipping would be more than just buying the scope on eBay.

A lot of people talk about how durable, seamless figures will be the next landmark innovation this hobby, but reading your post I think the next big thing might well be retractable eyelids.

Just pre-ordered me this bad boy last night. Decided to go with Alteregocomics.com, instead of Sideshow because its $230 shipped, you're card isnt charged until the figure shipped, and you after 14 days you only have to pay a 10% cancellation fee. Sideshow is over $230 without shipping, and they require a non-refundable 10% deposit within 24 hours of purchase. Im happy with my order. =]

I think the worrying thing about the "exclusive" is if it's the start of a trend from Hot Toys.
I'm not bothered by the telescope in this instance, and have never wanted an "exclusive" simply for the sake of it, but what if next time it's actually something pretty vital to the character or worse a second head sculpt?
Being excluded from one of these simply due to the geography of where you live would suck IMO
