Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

I'm wondering if we'll have some sort of time travel in this...
After all, Dallas (or Kane) said the Space Jockey looked fossilized, like it'd been there for thousands or years (should be millions of years if it was fossilized, but that's beside the point).

I've heard there will be time travel in the film. A few plot points, DO NOT READ THIS IF YOU DON'T WANT TO KNOW THE FULL STORY:

1. Film opens with the beginning of our world.
2. Our planet is being terraformed and bioformed by seemingly all-powerful, Godlike alien entities.
3. The prehistoric ruins of the alien's citadel is discovered in Africa, around 2085.
4. In 2090, a Interstellar Research Vessel called PROMETHEUS decelerates as it reaches its target solar system.
5. Prometheus encounters a massive disturbance which hadn’t appeared on scanners, one even more powerful than a black hole. The ship is sucked into the wormhole.
6. After landing on a nearby planetoid, the crew sets out to repair the Prometheus, while Elizabeth Shaw leads a recon expedition. Shaw’s team encounters a temple and inside is a biomechanical humanoid face set within a towering pillar, as well as thousands of seemingly primitive URNS. David takes several of the urns back to the vessel for analysis.
7. Investigating the urns, David discovers that they contain the genetic material for thousands of species within a viscous liquid, which can rewrite any living organism on a cellular level. Possession of the substance gives its owner the power to create life. Vickers interacts with David and seemingly innocently leads to the Bioformer infecting David through a cut in his finger.
8. Subsequently, the crew of the Prometheus begins to fall victim to the now weaponized substance, as Holloway injects many crew members.
9. David finds that the Bioformer is making him into a biological beind, making him human. The crew also finds that their trip through the wormhole took them back hundreds of millions of years and they are actually stranded on primordial Earth.
10. Meredith Vickers is the REAL villain of the story!
11. Elizabeth and David confront the Godlike alien entities in the temple. They prove to be utterly evil, and David sacrifices himself. The former android David, it turns out, is the basis for all Mankind.
12. Shaw makes it to her escape vessel which blasts off for the wormhole. A PILOT detaches from the temple in a FAMILIAR VESSEL and follows Shaw, but is lost in the wormhole.
13.In the final scene, we see the vessel that was chasing Shaw emerge from the wormhole, still in the prehistoric past, and crash on a nearby planetoid.

After seeing the trailer the only thing that doesn't fit is the final scene.

Has Ridley ever commented in the past what exactly the space jockey was? :dunno

Why would he!? He didn't create the story/write the script. This isn't aimed at you but just in general, Ridley gets WAY too much credit for Alien. Not only did Dan O'Bannon come up with the story/write the screenplay but he's also the one who suggested using Giger and his work for the films design.

Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

Wait, people were all up in arms over the AVP movies and Prometheus is introducing time travel to the Alien universe and everybody is excited for it?! Jesus i've totally been missreading the fandom's attitude towards certain things that should and should not be happening to the Alien franchise!

Still can't wait for it if it is the case. I watched Alien and Aliens before and i was in a good mood. So i decided not to watch Alien 3 because i didnt fancy being depressed.

Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

iunno.. I'm with you bro. The trailer got me excited, but some of the "plot spoilers" being thrown around are straight garbage. I hope they're all just fan BS and not real because most suck, including all that time travel none sense.

Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

Shaw returns to earth to fnd it has been taken over by apes

Boo to time travel..:(

Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

I don't want time travel, but I'm sure they could make it work...

Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

Time travel only works when you need to bring humpback whales from the past to save the present.

Most of the credit goes to David Giler, and Walter Hill. They re-wrote the script, gave all the characters their names, added Ash, pretty much re-did everything.

Bannon came up with the bones. They added the meat. Bannon got credit though. Rightfully so, as they took the script and did this without his knowledge, or consent.

But Ridley is pretty much responsible for the design of the film. He worked with Giger the most.

And since Ridley is the only one left alive (sans David Giler), then he now has the most say.

Some of them are the real deal. Infact most of the spoilers posted above are 100% accurate. I read a version of the script which included most of what has been posted (and can be seen in the trailer) it didn't however mention time travel. So I don't know if thats BS or a later addition to the shooting script. I wouldn't panic though, the trailer is fantastic and the script is very interesting, even the cheesier SF elements are handled well.

If they make it work, when what's the problem?

I figured most of what I had heard was correct, nice to get some conformation.

Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

But Ridley is pretty much responsible for the design of the film. He worked with Giger the most.

But that's my point, Ridley directed the film i.e. he decided how the film would look on-screen. He didn't "create" anything in it, the story, the design (he might've PICKED what he wanted, but most of the stuff in Alien already existed in previous paintings from Giger), not even the look of the actual Alien, NONE of the elements that people have questions about. So I don't know why people think he would have answers/explanations for certain things regarding the mythology behind the series.

If they make it work, when what's the problem?

The problem is they won't make it work, because you can't make something that clichéd suddenly cool. It's a tired and half-assed plot device.

Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

oh wow i wonder why devil 666 isn't directing this movie since she knows so much about directing and producing.

Very interesting if all of that is true. So I take it David is 'Prometheus' in the sense that he is an android (Titan) that steals bioformer (Fire) from the Jockeys (Gods) and is punished for eternity in a sense by becoming human/creating humanity in which he/we feel pain, die, war, ect over and over again? Or is it that the sum of humanity is a cycle played over and over again from the point of David stealing the bioformer incidentally creating man kind which creates him who creates man kind ect ect ect ad infinity?

Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

That is why time travel should not be introduced!

Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread
