can i use a faster DDR3 ram than my motherboard allows? as in is it safe?

motherboard allows up to 1600mhz.. and i also got a set of 16GB (2x8) RAM Kingston hyper x beast 2400MHZ

Some motherboards allow you to do that, it's basically overclocking the RAM, if you look up your motherboard it'll say what it supports, if it has something like 1866mhz (OC) then it means to get that speed it has to overclock the RAM. Usually that means changing a setting in the Bios. If it doesn't say it can support the RAM by overclocking, then it could possibly be done by manually adjusting the settings, but you would have to be an expert to know what settings to change without killing your machine.

just looked up my motherboard and this is what i found

Due to Intel® chipset limitation, DDR3 1600 MHz and higher memory modules on XMP mode will run at the maximum transfer rate of DDR3 1600 Mhz.

i know ram speed wont change a thing in Gaming, it's just something i'm looking up before i install these rams, so overclocking them is not a thing i'm gonna do "or even touch it"

think i'll return the 16GB kingstons.. what's installed are the G.skill 8GB .. i'll order the other 8GB of the same brand

I didn't have the time to fetch it yet, all these photos are from the shop as they are testing the rig before they hand it to me, they told me the gpu remained at 68 degrees n installed windows 8 and an anti virus

Thanks :)

something also just came up, they changed the motherboard from an ASUS H81 Gamer to ASUS H97-PLUS, told me that it's a better option for me "and i didn't have to pay more for the motherboard"

Cool set-up, man. If it's not too late, you should see if your shop can toss in a closed-loop water cooler for your i7. The stock Intel fan is very poor at dissipating heat, especially if you're in an already hot environment. Or, you can go with a huge air-cooler, like what some Freaks in this thread have done.

they did tell me your next upgrade should be a water cooler, i won't turn a blind eye for this .. thing is i'm broke atm because of this lol i just paid off the rest of the payment, $1600 for the whole thing (rig+shipping+labor)

just played a bit of ACU on PC

man The Difference between PC ver and PS4 is night and Day ! everything is Crisp and sharp

After finishing the game it's Witcher 3 on PC !

however the Download of the PC patch was kinda a headache for me 14GB of download .. so when it comes to purchasing games i won't do much Digital shopping and remain with Physical Copies .. can't imagine myself downloading a 50GB game leaving the PC on the whole day.

I just installed more Ram into the PC, Kingston Hyper X .. 16GB kit (2x8) .. the PC already had 8GB of G.skill Ripjaws (2x4)

at first i installed all (i know it's not reccomended) the PC booted random. no issues and saw that it got a Total of 24GB .. so just to make sure, i turned off the PC and back on again.. and yep there it is.. problems the PC was turning on, then off.. so i unplugged and removed the G.skill 8GB and left the Kingston's 16GB inside.. and the PC Booted without issues .. again.. turned it off and on.. and no issues .. so i'll stick with the Kingston's 16GB and save the G.skill for something else (my Daily use PC maybe)

Note: The Installed Kingston's HyperX 16GB Ram(At 2400MHZ) are Faster than what the motherboard supports (1600MZ)

Your RAM probably had different timings/voltage set since they are different speeds.

On the new ones did you set them to 2400 in the bios?

no I haven't, i just left everything as it is .. don't wanna dig deeper as i'm no expert

Looks like it is running at 1333 Mhz by default...it should be easy to change the speed to the max of your mobo.

See on the bottom left...enable X.M.P. and that's all you need to do. That will configure it automatically for you and speed up the RAM.
