Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Just got Cannibal Jack and Davy Jones!

Cannibal Jack is amazing!!!One of Hot Toys best figures and Yullie's head sculpts are absolute winners!!!! The Cannibal King head is an amazing likeness and expression of Johnny Depp as Sparrow. As is the grinning Jack head as well, which I in fact replaced the more 'serious' head on my 'At World's End' Jack Sparrow with. I believe Stallone is the celebrity Hot Toys has nailed the BEST, but Johnny Depp is certainly getting up there with this Jack Sparrow figure! He comes with all the accessories of the original Sparrow release...minus the rum (WHY IS THE RUM ALWAYS GONE????), the jacket and the tricorn hat...if I missed any...my bad. And what is really impressive is the use of the fake feathers and straw on the Cannibal King crown, it really makes it stand out on top of Jack's head!!! Nice touch additionally on the toe necklace as well!

Davy Jones is a great figure as well, I was surprised how moveable and pliable the rubber suit is, pretty dang good. I suppose they'll be using this exact same rubber on the ALIEN figures. It's very much like the rubber used in the Xenomorphs' joints. The rubber suit is certainly not as realistic as the cloth outfits but it does do the job well and Davy Jones looks great (thanks also to HT's superb paint applications). He's still quite poseable and you might be surprised to discover that underneath all that rubber there is a HT TrueType body under there! His accessories are excellent as well! The Dead Man's Chest with his beating heart, the key (which actually fits into the Chest's keyhole!!!Though I wouldn't recommend turning the keyhole, which is turnable, with the key...they key would probably snap), a pipe, his cane, hat, and sword & sheath.

My only two nitpicks with Davy Jones are his face sculpt is not exactly Bill Nighy but it still is well done. The second is that he is too short!!! They might've been better off using the Wolf Predator's body underneath which would've been tall enough but lanky enough to hide underneath the rubber suit (unlike the previous bulkier Preds). Granted, Jack is also ridiculously tall but it's silly to see Sparrow tower over Davy Jones and it almost takes away from Jones considering he is such a remarkably unique character design. Of course, there are the ankle modifications that Chase did to fix Jack's height...but Hot Toys knew about this previously and should've at least made Davy Jones taller to alleviate Jack's height difference.

Now bring on BARBOSSA!!!!

Great pictures MaulFan. Oh, when is mine coming? SUCH A CRUEL CRUEL WORLD!

Again, MF, you make me very happy that I ordered Cannibal Jack! :)

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Really, I wasn't able to get my key to fit in... and I'd be damn afraid to try and turn anything since its so tiny and fragile.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Batch 2, Davy Jones by himself (1 down, 1 Jones figure left to get, wrong movie series though).

Some stuff is more to show of the range of poseability he has for sword poses. I don't know mythology well, so I'm not sure what the mythological look of Davy Jones is, but I do love the design they came up with for the POTC movies, he just looks so cool. I'm watching DMC right now, and the only real nit I can make with paint apps on Davy is the lobster elements. They are that red at the base, but in the movie there is a lot of grime and other things all over the surface which cloud the red and make almost a rusty look.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

I wonder what that red blotch on Jack's right jawline is. A burn? I see it in all the pics of Jack and it looks like HT didn't miss that detail.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

I always assumed the red patch is some kind of infection, probably caught from a loose woman.

Great shots MF, you really capture how nice Davy looks in hand!

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

I know I'm way late int the game here but I think after I clear up my ebay debts a jack sparrow has to be my next figure to get. Which one would you recommend ?.
I need one to really represent all the movies on a whole as I doubt I will be getting anymore. Fantastic pics Maul Fan , they never cease to amaze me !:rock

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

If you can find him I say go for the Cannibal Jack version of the figure.
You can't go wrong with 2 heads.
:chew
Also Maulfan your pictures are awesome!
I can't wait to get my Cannibal Jack from Alter Ego Comics, the website still says "shipping 2nd quarter"

I have to side with DarthTrafford. Both these heads are better than the first version, and you'll have more versatility. As long as you don't mind not having a complete outfit, you should be good to go.

If you can't find V2, V1 is still awesome. You just can't lose. Who knows, by the time you save, there might be a V3.

MaulFan, you sir are an artist. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Beautiful pictures of all four figures. Love em'! This has to be the best line ever released to date for the 1/6 scale.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

the gods have smiled upon me after all. as i was leaving for work (without davy or jack in my possession yet) in a state of extreme depression, i saw the UPS truck coming down the road. i quickyl pulled back into my driveway. after i SIGNED:rolleyes: for the package i quickly threw it in my house and went to work(much happier now i might add). got home at 11:30 and opened these bad boys up and have been playing with them til now. im very impressed.:D they look even better in hand. Davy is perfect. a very well engineered figure indeed. all those people who want to settle for the NECA version dont know what they are missing. cannibal jack is great as well. i wasnt gonna open him til tomorrow cuz i really didnt want to try and put all that junk on him but i caved. hes now sitting cross legged on my end table drinking rum with his feathered headress on.

PS. id also like to give a shout out to the SS packaging department. my jack sparrow box looks like somebody beat the ^^^^ out of it. if i was a box collector i would probably be pissed. isnt that big a deal to me though since it will just spend its life in a closet somewhere. oh well.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

I don't think they chose to make Davy small, I think they just took their base body and built him up from their. He's not in scale with others persay, but by himself proportions are correct so I'm sure that's what they aimed for. The POTC line clearly shows HT doesn't pay attention to scale.
I'm pretty sure they chose to make him small seeing as how it almost looks like he's on a female true-type body.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

jack is just way too big. boots give him waaay to much height. and his hat doesnt fit on his head the way a real persons hat would. so if you got the hat on he looks even taller yet.

One thing I found with the smirking head, the hat sits much better on it than the V1. You almost have to force it on the V1 to get it sitting right, smirking just fits right in.

Great Pictures MF! I am now slightly sorry I canceled these two. :google
