Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Was feeling well enough today to look Davy over. Unfortunately now I think he'll need to go back. On his crab claw tip there is a fleshtone looking paint smear/rub on it.

Its minor I know, and I really hate sending things back for replacements, but at $150 plus shipping, there should be next to no errors, at least on the front and highlights of the figure.

What you do guys think?

Or is is SUPPOSED to be there?

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

I got my shipping notice today too from Alter Ego for Cannibal Jack!
I should get him on the 10th!
Aboot time!
:chew

Just re-read my e-mail and now Jack won't be here until the 11th! They had to reschedule the drop off date.
I guess I can wait 1 day extra...plus I'm off from work that day!

If it was me, I would just put a little black paint over it.

Buttmunch, by posting about it here and taking photos, it's already shown it bugs you and you're not satisfied.

I'd send it back for a replacement (unless you want to try painting over it).

I'm of the frame of mind that says, "The replacement might have something wrong with it that bothers me more!" I'd be too nervous I'd get one with something broken. I say paint, it appears VERY minor; but I totally get where you're coming from, it would bug me too. :google

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

I have OCD probably worse than anyone here, and I think that the paint flaw is very minor. Davy is covered with crustaceans and crap, I think it would be difficult for someone else to notice that if not pointed out.

I'm with you though on the argument that something for $150 shouldn't have issues like these, but I also agree with Mr? that you may get a replacement that is worse with a defect somewhere else even more noticeable, like the face.

So...basically..I am no help at all. :monkey1

I'll shoot them an email soon then.

mine doesnt have it. the claw tip is all black or dark red or whatever color it is.

Thanks for letting me know it is indeed a paint error then. That settles it.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Is it something you can just pick off... or is it underneath the gloss coat? If its on top of the gloss coat you could probably just remove it. If not, and it bugs you I'd get it replaced.

I tried to and nothing. I can't tell if it is a paint rub-off/scratch or a paint transfer/slop. Either way, its not coming off.

So here is hoping the replacement will be better!

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

I'd guess probably a slop, there are some whitish/fleshy dots towards the forearm of the claw with intent, someone proably slipped and figured it'd blend with the others.

the painter probably wanted to fix it but paint time was almost over. milk break, recess, and then nap time would soon follow.
