Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Thanks. Got it. He's almost done. A little finish work on the eye makeup and moustache left, but I'm happy with the skin tone. My first human repaint in over a year. I do prefer him lighter.

any word on a barbossa figure

No Hot Toys said they wont make any more figures at this time.

While TDK line is alive i doubt they would even consider making more Pirates, but who knows,i only need 1 more Pirate and thats Barbossa, besides that i might want a DMC Will, but not a must.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Thanks, that sucks. Another line full of potential abandoned. I don't get it, I thought POTC line was selling well.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

I dont think these Pirates sell as good as many other figures,i wish they make something soon too,but like Rocky(which im a big fan of) we wont see much more, because they dont sell good enough.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Well, as nice as the Rocky figures are, I always got the impression that was a struggling line, but it always seemed like from a sales perspective, POTC was healthy. Maybe HT is only focused on current demand and older films that have built demand with lack of merchandise over years like Aliens.

No Barbossa?! DAMMIT!

The line is done.

Glad I didn't get all into it. Davy and Jack will suffice. But I was really looking forward to some additional characters.

HT is worse than SS at completing lines.

But this is good to know. It will keep me from being a completist with HT. If the Predator line goes forward -- big IF -- then I'm just getting Dutch and the Pred. I won't bother getting Billy as it's unlikely they'll finish the crew. They'll skip someone important. Same with ALIEN. They did the spacesuit, so a Lambert and Ripley at least is doable. No way we'll get anyone else.

Still pisses me off how HT ruined Drago, most pathetic figure ive seen, sculpt doesnt look like him at all,his body is overdimentional, muscles makes him look like The Hulk, long neck.
Every since i bought Drago ive prayed for HT to make a Yellow gear Drago with fixed body and sculpt.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Oh well, lets all hold hands and pray to HT for a Barbossa:violin

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Ya, it's fine if a line dies if at least key players are covered, but Hot Toys is becoming notorious for leaving out key people. ALIENS should have had a Bishop if no one else ever got made in that line, even Newt, and they dropped the ball. Rambo still should have the 4th film represented at least, and that's considerably up in the air at this point. Terminator should have had a Sarah Connor and didn't. POTC now is likely to never see a Barbossa. I wonder what their decision process is in doing things this way. It really makes me think they don't care as much about collecting and the owner side as Sideshow. Sure SSC's left some lines unfinished and what not, but as far as I know in all those cases, there was legitimately poor sales to support not putting in effort. Hot Toys seems to let some successful lines just fade away, very strange, and dissappointing.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Wait until the TDK line is finished and we might see something else we want, people isnt talking about anything else today.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

There's always the long shot, it just sucks that you pretty much have to move on as though it's over and then just take the big surprise if it comes back.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

When it comes to these Pirates its all or nothing for me,if the line really is over and we wont see anything in a year or so i dont see myself keep these,Cannibal Jack will stay though.
And the way i see it,Barbossa is the last Pirate to make the crew complete,FOR ME.

2 Fengs was HT`s biggest mistake,i know he is popular in Asia and all,but c`mon, any of the other 3 characters(Jack,Will and Liz) would have sold 10 times better.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

I don't think the Fengs hurt things, they both were done very early, they just slew down the start of the line, but it looked to me like Elizabeth and Will helped build a momentum and Davy and Cannibal Jack really took it to the next level. The line had momentum and Hot Toys just jumped ship.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

yeah thats very true,V1 Jack was alone for a long time, and the next 4 came out very close to eachother so its eacy to dig the line while its hot like TDK line is right now,so much coming before Christmas.

I think they helped until people realized the scale issue. Like Kane, a lot of people cancelled or never ordered (like me) because of that.

Perhaps HT is a bottom-line company. If sales don't hit a certain mark, they're out. If sales start well but they get many cancelations or complaints about certain figures, they're out.

There's always new money to be made on the next thing. That seems to be their philosophy....and that will be their undoing.
