Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Bummer about not getting Barbosa... would have preferred him over Davy.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

I think they helped until people realized the scale issue. Like Kane, a lot of people cancelled or never ordered (like me) because of that.

The scale issue meaning that Elizabeth and Davy are too short? I know there was a lot of discussion about it in this thread, but I somehow doubt that the majority of potential purchasers noticed or would care enough to cancel if they did. I don't see that killing the line by any means. POTC is just dead as a franchise in general.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

after reading about the height issues I still decided to buy Davy...but I thought the problem was with Jack being too tall :dunno

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

It was just a general inconsistency of height in the line.

No, I don't think that killed the line, but like everything I'm sure it contributed. There was a lot of care given to HT figures which seems to be waning of late.

Even though their recent sculpt work has gone thru the roof, other issues abound: height issues (POTC), body issues (Rocky), paint apps most recently (facehugger Kane), the rush to sell product (early Joker), the lack of completing key figures to any given line...all of this gets people frustrated along the way -- like Creecher -- and eventually people lose trust and faith.

Me, I'm now gonna wait on all future HT preorders until I see in-hand pics. Well, I'm gonna try my hardest. Or preorder thru someone that doesn't have a cancelation fee.

The Joker v2 sculpt is phenomenal, but HT has really been letting me down lately more than exciting me. What is it they say: the candle that burns brightest...

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Possibly too are expectations have been raised too high by some of their figures. I think Davy was a smidge too short for a 1/6 version... but Jack was waaay too tall. Which makes for an odd look on the shelf. But, both on their own are amazing so I got over it.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

What is funny is that all Wook's post says is "Not at the Moment." It doesn't say "Line is Dead". In reality we already knew this. HT's focus is squarely on TDK and Iron Man, the figures being given from the other licenses were already planning for some time. What that quote really means is that no figures were planned out to be released any time soon. Even if the decided to do a Barbossa figure it'd still be another year before release. We'll see more POTC, I just think it'll be a while because of other stuff that is pressing.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Davy arrived today, I am kinda surprised it only took 2 days to arrive from Honk Kong to London... but I ain't complaining!

This thing looks AMAZING, definitely my fave figure that I own so far, it looks much better up close and the pics certainly don't do it justice.

looking at it up close this thing looks nothing like a NECA figure, and I agree that rubber was the best way to go. the articulation is better than I expected and all in all I am very happy I decided to pick him up

on a side note, I had a minor panic attack when I could not find the key in the packaging, the I realised it was not contained with the rest of the figure :lol

thanks for turning me onto this guy!

I think a number of us encountered that, I know I did, it was so surprising for the key to be in a different part of the packaging than all the other accessories, the only time I've encountered that with Hot Toys. I find that putting it into the chest with the heart is the best place for safe keeping.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Well to say the least we won't be getting another Liz Swan figure, so I think i'll buy her at least.

Me, too, and I like Davy.

In fact, if these are all were going to get, I rather wish they would have been based off of Curse of the Black Pearl instead of AWE & DMC.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

I guess there is more money to be made off of AWE than curse of the black pearl

I don't think there is, but perhaps Hot Toys felt that way. Hot Toys seems to treat properties of the last 10 years like only things that are right in front of folks now will sell well, so AWE would be the only POTC film to do great and they touched on DMC just enough to give a cool Jack Sparrow figure they knew would sell well.

To me though, that's foolish, the POTC trilogy of characters and costumes would sell equally and in fact, Curse and DMC would probably sell better than AWE for some characters like Will and Elizabeth.

I think for the Asian crowd AWE is a much more profitable movie. For the US, Curse with it's zombie pirate potential would be killer.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

What's frustrating as a PIRATES fan (for me) is that I can't stand the Will and Elizabeth characters... and I think that AT WORLD'S END is easily one of the worst blockbuster movies of the past 10 years. I freaking hate it. It's right down there with PHANTOM MENACE, the MATRIX SEQUELS, and SPIDER-MAN 3 in the "wtf were they thinking?" department. Just awful. CURSE OF THE BLACK PEARL is immensely superior and even DEAD MAN'S CHEST is much better.

I agree almost 100% I only half hate Will.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

I like both Elizabeth and Will and have since Curse.

But Curse, IMO, is the best of the films. As much of a POTC lover that I am, I had a few issues with the sequels that will forever prevent me from enjoying them as much as CotBP.

AWE suffered from writers who essentially wrote and edited the script while they were on the set of DMC. Didn't work out so well for them. DMC was far superior, but COTBP takes the cake.

I enjoy the Will/Elizabeth story because of Keira :naughty

Orlando is just a ^^^^ty actor.

Phantom Menace isn't that bad, it's on par with (better then)AOTC and ROTS I think.
