Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Its harder for me to get one coz im in the UK. I payed at good shipped and everything last week then he cancelled telling me hed sold the fig in his shop already in hong kong and refunded me. theres some on ebay but they are from USA and they have a good chance of ending up in customs. Hmm as Jack would say *Bugga*

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

I only have Cannibal Jack but I wouldn't mind adding just Wil to the collection. I could do without the others. (for the time being...)

Will is great, you wouldn't regret getting him, but once you get him you're probably going to end up wanting Davy too. :lol

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

I say get Will Turner, most likely a cheaper buy and actually looks like the character and would fit in well beside Jack Sparrow, i am not too fond of Hot Toys Davy Jones at all..likeness to character looks poorly done.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

I sold Davy after I decided I only wanted Curse of the Black Pearl characters.

The Will Turner is one of the best looking figures in my collection.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

I think Davy is great. He is just a little too short compared to Will or Jack though. I think the problem is their boots. Elizabeth looks way too short too.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Davy is great, could you pick him apart doing a side by side with film stills, yeah there's a few things off, but he's easily in the top 5 most impressive figures in my collection. The quality of the detailing on him, the versatility of articulation Hot Toys managed and the slimy wet look they were able to give him are just so amazing.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Got Will and Elizabeth today, so my Pirates collection is complete. :rock

Does anybody have any pictures of how to tie Elizabeth's scabbard correctly? I can't really make out the instructions that came with it.

you should get sao feng, it has a great likeness and would complete your line..

Sorry about the multi-quotes but all of you touched on different things that were important to me.

I do like Jones as well but he does look a bit short next to the others. I know all about the scale problems and possible remedies but I'm trying to limit my figure collection to the bare minimum at the moment. In the case of POTC, I also would like to limit it to the original film, my favorite.

Wil just looks like a miniaturized Orlando Bloom. I think I could have him and Jack displayed together and consider my POTC display complete (for the most part, as a Barbosa is what I REALLY want...).

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

The nice thing with this line, every figure looks great, so if you want to be selective, you can still have a sharp looking collection be it 1 or 2 figures or all of them.

The biggest negative of the line is the lack of Barbossa and alternate representations of Will and Elizabeth, which are both up HT's alley when it comes to selection, core, popular characters and variants. Sure Pintell, etc. would be cool, but with how HT works, I think wanting them would be a very unrealistic dream, I'd have been shocked as hell if we ever saw them. Hell, Sao wouldn't exist even if it weren't for the popularity of Chow-Yun Fat.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Yeah i'd buy a barbossa in an instant, and STILL havn't bought any of this line! A really nailed Geoffery Rush HS with the new HT technology would be fantastic. Maybe they're saving it for the next film, if he is indeed in it? They definately need to revisit the line for the next film. There's room for improvement, and i want to see them NAIL the figures. With his greened eyes, mouth open with the teeth showing, would be off tap!

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

For those that have Davy, you can increase his height slightly by pulling his head up -- it has a tendancy to get pushed down and forward -- and if you pull his leg up from his one boot then set it back down without pushing the peg into the socket you gain a little more height. It's slight but it does help.

Unfortunately, HT Pirates remains the worst example of keeping height proportions semi-accurate. Jack and Will are good relative to each other but tower over Davy and Swann.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

What are the chances HT will do a DX version of Jack Sparrow? I'm trying
to decide on getting the AWE version now or playing the wait and see game.

Chances I'd say are good, but when is the question. My guess is, if they know that Depp's signed on and a 4th film will be made, they'll wait until that movie's in big hype and cash in on it. If they're unaware, they may just do it now. DX line is slow moving though so far. There's rumor of a TDK Batman, Rocky, and Rambo already, so who knows when Sparrow might fit in. Surely they recognize his character would benefit from the PERS technology.
