Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

I no longer buy much of anything Sideshow because they don't have the licenses I want, and I only buy selections from Tonner's HP line, so I can get these Pirate figures with little to no problems. Even if I did have problems, I would just give up something else in their place.

As an unashamed potc fan girl, they're too awesome for me not to collect them.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

I can't wait until they start making more of Davy's crew. I think this is the best looking 1/6 line out there.

I'm curious as to what his coat is made out of. Since the whole figure has a wet look it appears to be plastic but that can't be so.

I'm guessing it'll be painted silicone, kind of would make sense... I want it now! HT are just bulldozing right now.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Wow!
The likeness is impressive!! And the articulation of the tentacles is way too cool!! I'm a tad dissapointed with the outfit though...I wish it was more a combination of Fabric and Plastic, rather than just platic...oh well...I can't afford it anyways!! :monkey2

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Well so far the only POTC figures I've passed on were both versions of Sao cuz the character does nothing for me, but some of the other HT lines have had characters I wanted but with their price and the number of other lines I collect, I've had to say no. Hopefully the POTC will stay at the pace it's on, it's strong but no so strong it overwhelms you.

I can't think of another figure that has been used on. I wonder how durable it would be.

I'm pretty sure the aliens bodies are a rubber silicate composition, I imagine them being like that, pure guesswork though.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Wow he does look really awesome. I didn't intend to get him, and I doubt I will now, but he certainly looks tempting. Shouldn't he be a little more green and less flesh colored?

Same here..... At least it's not so overwhelming you can't keep up. I can do this. I usually get the one I can't stand not to, and come back for the others. So I got Jack, will come back for Elizabeth... got Cannibal Jack, will come back for Will. I felt the same way about Sao, cool design for the character, but not enough to make me buy it. But Davy.... MUST OWN.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

That Davy Jones is magnificent! I haven't bought a POTC figure yet though i've been tempted by Sparrow many a times but Jones might just be my "must have" for this line...

Yup, and with the smirking Jack portrait, and Jones able to hold the key, you can pose them locked swords from the moment in AWE when Jack's like "I have the key" and Davy pulls it out, "no you don't."

I can't wait to see how you repaint Davy Josh, if his head materials allow for repainting, if he's all soft like Jack's dreads, that may be a challenge. By the way, did you ever repaint your Jack, I'm curious to see what you do with it.

:rock :rock :rock :rock

OH HELL YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!

:bow

Hot Toys is AMAZING!!! I cant freakin wait to have this on my shelf. I will be ordering this from Toys2, I cant wait for Sideshow to get theirs in!!!!!

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

I guess there's pretty much nothing beyond HT's capabilities at this point. Davy looks phenomenal, but I'm just not a big enough fan of the character to buy. I hope Hector Barbossa is next

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Jones=Made of Win!

I've been kind of holding back on this line to make sure Davy was coming; now that he is, here I go....

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Fan-freaking-tastic! He looks incredible. Definately a must buy. I am a little disapointed they didn't go with cloth clothes, but this way probably will end up looking better than if they had. He isn't looking very poseable, besides the tentacles I mean, but he is just uber-awesome.

Really can't believe they didn't wait til Toy Fair to unveil this masterpiece, but I am glad they didn't! I expect that is when we will get to order it from Sideshow though.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

I love how the tentacles have a translucent effect to them, looks a lot more screen accurate than the painted version by NECA. I'm very excited about this figure, a bit terrified to find out his final cost :)monkey3) but very still very stoked.

Although he doesn't look to be real poseable... my guess is the coat will be fairly rigid and will restrict a lot of the range of the 20 POA. But I really think that is more a limitation of the design of Davy than fault of HT.

I'm hoping that the lack of cloth will bring the pricepoint down a bit....Still expect around $150 for it...

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Best figure of 2008 already and were only in the first month, this is going to be another great year for the 1/6 collectors.

Was he always that brightly coloured?

I'd almost think it would increase the price... more sculpting involved. And it does not look like the scrimped on the detail. And unlike the Alien figures I don't see a lot of opportunity for reuse or a variant re-release.
