Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

I'm guessing Q3 may be more realistiic, or even 2. Site says 4, I think Wookster gets his info from HT's newsletter and he posted it as Q2, so I guess Q3 being the average of both.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

And if you buy from Sideshow you can figure it will be coming even later than that.

I think I am gonna get this one from Toys2, I really dont want to wait for SS to get it in.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

I may not be bothered by $70 for Luke, but when it comes to something like paying an extra $10-$15 or just waiting on a retailer. The cheaper side of me always wins out :lol

Always does for me too, except when I got the HT endo skeleton. Other than that purchase I always wait for SS to get theirs in, but I want this one SO BAD!!!

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

I'd keep a sharp eye on things guys. I know 90% of the time Toys2 gets it a little bit before or significantly before Sideshow, but that plan backfired on me with Rambo 3, Toys 2 didn't get theirs until a couple months after Sideshow.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

If they were to release a blister version of Davy, what could they possibly add? He's got everything from DMC and AWE, even the pipe.

I guess they could make a "fight version" with his tentacles chopped off on one side. Not a very dramatic change. Is this really the one and only Davy Jones from Hot Toys?

HT loves to reuse, recolor and resell figures. There must be some v2 plan.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

The only thing he doesn't come with that he possibly could in another realease is the dice from the game in DMC, but I could care less about that, it's not as though the figures could actually sit around and play it.

Yeah, plus the dice was not uniquely his. I'm really at a loss to figure out how they could resell this guy. He had no wardrobe change or anything. And a face sculpt alteration really wouldn't be enough to buy a v2.

Maybe they'll do a paint change -- make him look more muted like he appears in the films, less bright red claw. They do color changes with Aliens.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

The only other thing I can think of is giving him Norrington's sword. Perhaps they'll only do one Davy Jones, they don't HAVE to sell variants of all characters and figures.

I consider Cannibal Jack to be all new though, and not a variant as he doesn't include his coat or Pirate hat, he has 2 unique heads, and a few new accessories specific to him. I think we MAY see a Curse Jack figure to round things out, but after that, there's nothing but money grubbing variants to go after, and if they do same figures with alternate heads it'll work because some will want those heads and buy another figure.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

I think Cannibal Jack is a variant -- he has all the same clothing so they save money of development there.

I don't mind variants as long as the character has a substantial wardrobe change -- like with SW Lukes. Cannibal Jack is as close to a wardrobe change as you can get with Jack, so it's OK. Obviously Will and Eliz have the most sizeable wardrobe changes to mine.

Davy must have been an expensive figure for HT with no way to sell variants. But of course, he's absolutely necessary and will bring people into the line.

Wish SS realized this with making a Vader -- sometimes a loss is a gain.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Given his role as the key villain of 2 out of 3 films, it would be a waste of the line if they never gave us Jones. Given what has turned out, it's not as complex as we'd have figure. Not to say what they haven't done is amazing, but I think the vision we all had contemplating how he could be done wasn't as realistic as what has been done, I think we all blew up beyond this. I agree with some that his coat could have been cloth, but given the ammount on it and all, I'm happier with it being molded because you don't have to worry about glue letting go. If I spend $150 on him and then half of his jacket decor fell off over time because of the glue and such, I'd be miffed. This method looks to give us a great figure that'll endure.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

That'd be great if he came in at around $150. That would be a solid value IMO.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

I agree. Actually, I always thought his coat would be plastic or rubber, given the detail. I never wanted a cloth coat like that horrible Zizzle figure. I think it's funny that HT bothered to add that little cloth sash to Davy. I didn't even notice that he had a sash in DMC/AWE.

Is that a pirate rule: must have sash?

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Apparently it was the look of the Pirate days, hat, coat, sash. The beauty of this figure is you'll be able to see details about Jones that were obscured in the film lighting, much like ALIEN collectibles let you see and appreciate Giger's work.

I'm just very glad Jones can pose for sword fighting, I've wanted him since Jack to have them fighting.

I hope the handles on the dead man's chest pivot so I can have Jack holding it while fighting Jones just like the film.

:drool Great Seans think alike. That's the same pose I want. Should I bite and get the V1 Jack Sparrow from SS now.. or wait?

Depends on what you're looking for. V2 Jack doesn't have his pirate hat or coat, both of which he wore while fighting Jones. For me, it's important to have the full look, but some people could live with just having the characters somehow. If you want the full look, get V1, or try to get the V1 coat and hat of eBay and buy the full V2 figure.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Well Im thinking of getting him, just wonder if SS would be able to use my school address as a business address :lol
