Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

I just hope Hot Toys gets his eyes right. They have a very sickly look to them.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Not to mention he is just rough looking... :google That would have to be a hard headsculpt to get right, but I'm sure HT will be up to it :rock

That's true to, but I'm plenty confident. The texture on Sao looked great, in fact the HS came out so great it tempted me to get him. As much as Jack Sparrow is my favorite character, based on quality, I have a gut feeling Barbossa will be my favorite figure, just lots to enjoy about it's craftsmanship.

I think the bottom leg/ankle "extender" is standard on all HT truetype bodies.

Forgive me if I've missed this discussion elsewhere, but is there a place to pick up HT bodies?

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

If anyone can do Barbossa, HT can, and I'm almost 100% sure they will.

I'm counting on it. I'm still hoping to snag the GG Animaquette to pair with Davy, but an HT Barbossa is at the top of my wish list. I think if we have this many versions of Jack, Elizabeth, and Sao Feng, the least we could get is Barbossa. It's not too much to ask.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

It would be very cool to see how they execute his scragly beard. Babrbossa would be an awsome figure to own!

Forgive the resolution of the image, but it's key to seeing what I'm talking about. I think the above picture clarifies why we haven't seen Barbossa yet. Looking closely at the image, I'd say he has one of the most intricate costumes to make, maybe more than Sao. Look at the patterning on his inner shirt and even skarf around his waist looks very detailed on one side. They may not match it 100%, but to come even close might take a fair ammount of sourcing for the materials. Even his coat, if done right, is an interesting texture and may not be easily replicated. The clothing alone will be stunning when/if they produce him.

Did not realise how complicated is outfit was and the face will be a pain no doubt. Hope HT produce one, only want Jack, Davy and Barbossa with undead monkey Jack. The three pirate captians i guess.

If they can do frackin' Davy Jones, they can do Barbossa! He's my #1 most wanted pirate.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

At least we know Barbossa will have a real feather now that they've shown that with Cannibal Jack.

The patterning is detailed and no doubt complicated to get right, but no POTC line would be complete without Barbossa.

Exactly, I don't think it won't get done, but after looking at the image, I think it won't be done as asily as Will or Jack, it's more up with Sao and Swann and possibly harder than them as well since their detailing was more embroidery than coloration. Don't get my wrong, embroidering is complex, but sourcing the materials to make isn't compared to matching a fabric pattern like Barbossa has. Even Davy, while complicated, is acutally all sculpt work so that's probably easier done. I'm sure we'll see Hector.

As for the image I posted, forgive me that it's down right now, my whole website is, my signature's gone and everything at the moment.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Agreed, I think Hector is on the horizon. He has a very mismatched and complicated outfit, but it's a reflection of his character as much as Davy Jones' outfit is a reflection of him. I love that he's adorned with such ornate and random mismatched trinkets. Barbossa likes to reflect that he is an affluent, cosmopolitan man; his necklace with the curled serpent, his buttons made from melted down Inca silver, his lion's head ring plundered from a Venetian ship, and his magnificent hat with the blue ostrich feather... a very elaborate wardrobe, and I hope that HT can replicate it convincingly. It's a lot of attention to detail that's necessary there, but if anyone can pull it off, I think HT can. Wardrobe aside, I think Geoffrey Rush's likeness is going to be right on target from what we've seen with the other POTC figures.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

I totally think HT can and will pull of Barbossa, the portrait will be great and the costuming stunning, I just think the road to his creation will be a longer journey than some of the others. Like I've said before, these guys tend to come in 3s, so I'm curious what else will come out same time as him.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

I don't know if anybody cares, but BBTS has the Jack Sparrow Giant Cosbaby on clearance for $33.99. I didn't want it at the regular price of $64.99, but I couldn't resist it at this price. I haven't seen one in person yet, but it's apparently quite large at 12" -- about the same height as their regular POTC figures.

Hhhmm, well, I'm hoping for Tia Dalma at some point (In terms of complexity and intricacy in costuming and accessories? Hiyo!) as well as maybe Beckett and/or Mercer. And while I don't think they're necessarily figures that I would buy, I'd say Pintel and Ragetti are strong bets as well.

NIce find Maulfan again and I hope we see a HT Barbossa because he may even steal the show away from Jones..............Maybe.:monkey3

As cool as Jones is, in collectible format, there is some power of his character lost, a lot of it was in his speech and maneurisms. Barbossa could stand still on a shelf and look like someone you don't want to mess with. Plus like I've said before, Jones is all sculptural, there's hardly any fabrication on him so it's much easier to make solid materials look like they should than fabrics.

I truly think that if they do Barbossa, which they really should, he'll be the most impressive figure in the line for all of the work on him from sculpt to fabrication to paint.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Every time this thread floats back to the surface I think BARBOSSA has been announced.

Cool picture though.

Hhmm, we're on the same page 9/10 times, MaulFan, but this time I'm not so sure. For me, it was as close to a religious experience as I could have when I saw the HT Davy... I personally thought that it perfectly captured the character. Particularly in the conveyance of Bill Nighy's eyes. He has very powerful eyes as an actor, they truly are piercing, and it's those same eyes that come right through in the character, and which I looked into in that figure and saw Davy in his essence once again. It will be a thrill to have him in my collection, and I think if any POTC collectible can match him, it'll be a HT Barbossa.

I understand what you're saying, though. Sometimes you just connect with a figure and sometimes you don't. I know there have been a lot of collectibles that others adore but I immediately scoffed at. What's important is that you connect with the collectible, I suppose. At least that's how I feel.

On a differing note, another figure that I'd like to see from HT is Bootstrap Bill. That would be, in the words of James Lipton, scrumtrilescent! :D
