Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

At least the height between Will and Jack is shown to not be as drastic although Will's skin tone issue is amazing...

how easy do these heads swap out for hot toys. never tried to remove one. im guessing no hair dryer is needed for these.

It's quite easy, I posted an image longggg ago in this thread of how Jack's head attaches, I'll dig it up, but basically the heads have a hole in the base of them and there's a ball coming up out of the neck that goes into the socket of the head.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Depends. Usually you just pull them off but if there is a double joint you end up removing the whole neck usually by accident. I've never had to use a hair dryer on an HT fig save the Predator

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

I was just futzing with Will and gave his head an exploriatory tug, but it didn't want to come off. Now I didn't pull it hard, as the plastic used on the body seems quite brittle, so, as I'm more than happy with it the way it is, thats the way mine stays!
And FQRizzo, the paint on the smiling head is quite a bit lighter than the original, but I never took issue with the original any way. I thought for a guy that's spent his life at sea and has less than ideal personal hygiene the skin tone looked about right.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

I agree, I just think some V1 Jacks were just a smidgen too dark....

That's the downside, that it wasn't a consistent problem. I got my Jack in the first wave from Toys2 like 4 months before SSC people and got a nice skin tone, I was surprised by the number of SSC orders that ended with him having a darker tone than mine. He shouldn't be clean and casper white, but he shouldn't be as dark as some people's looked.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

I was just looking at eBay and saw an auction for a Cannibal Jack body, Wookster, can you confirm whether Cannibal Jack is on a different body than the V1, the significant difference is in the shoulders. V1 Jack's shoulders are like Rambo here.

And this is the auction body, with the shoulders closer to the body as they should be.

I don't see much difference. Just looks like the shoulder pivot is pushed in a bit on the ebay one vs. Rambo. Whatever it is is minimal at best.

I'll take every bit I can get though, I find the Rambo/V1 Jack shoulders atrociously inhuman, it'd be cool if Cannibal Jack wasn't so herculean as the V1.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Not sure about the shoulders Maulfan, I'm at my studio and the figs are at home, they seemed to be the same from memory, but I can't be sure. I'll try and feel around them later, don't want to undress him though.

Took a couple more pics last night to show the old head and smilling one. These don't show it great but the new head is deffinetly a bit lighter.
I also futzed with Wills shirt, it's held down under the groin with velcro so I undid it so I could pull it up a little, I'll explain it all in the review, but I think he looks better for it!

I was debating cancelling Canibal Jack, but this picture sold the sculpt for me and put to rest my fears. My wallet, it burns! :devil

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Thanks for the pics and such Wookster, I didn't see in pictures and must have missed in the product listing that he came with the knife from his dad, very cool. For it's couple shortcomings, I'm still finding will very cool, definitely going to keep him.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

That last picture is really great.

I actually find myself liking both sculpt of Jack - the new one just has a better overall expression...but the original really has very realistic skin texture that seems to be missing from the Smilin' Jack (which looks to be much smoother).

I've always felt the V1 portrait accurrately capture Depp, but the expression wasn't the right one for Jack Sparrow outside of a few publicity shots. I think part of the success of the 2 newest heads is experience. Wookster's shots make the 2 regular heads look so identical to the nose and all, I imagine the sculptor approached things pretty simple for the first one to be sure to get the anatomy right, now with anatomy down pat, time to explore character and expression and it's succeeded. I'd love to see at least 2 more Jack sculpts come out from HT.

I don't think it's so much the sculpt as it is the paint.. I mean in comparison to the smiling V.2 Jack to the more serious V.1 Jack.

The much improved paint apps bring out the realism of Cannibal Jack's face.
