Its pretty incredible that even at this resolution, the sculpt looks clean and perfect. Must be insane in hand.

Wookster, I'm curious if the scabbard belt has been lengthened (if you have Jack v1)?

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Really? I can remember more times throughout the trilogy where Jack just smirked and smiled when an idea was brewing then anything else.....

I agree with that, but the eyes or maybe the expression look more calm and serene then mischevious.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Now that's an impressive factory paint job. All other companies should take note.

Thats It !!!!!i'm Buying It.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

i think someone once said that whoever is sculpting this line is the michelangelo of 1/6th scale. they weren't lying, but the paint apps help out too. especially the eyes.

That's the key, paint is the make or break of a good sculpt. The biggest difference to me between these heads and the V1 is not the sculpting but that the painting, especially in the eyes, is truer to Jack Sparrow, very important. We've all seen some Sideshow sculpts that have been phenominal and seen what lousy paint can do to them.

Without doubt, HT has found a recipe for high end, consistent paint apps, the biggest step over SSC's paints for them being the consistency, hopefully that little secret will be shared as well.

You know what scares me is how in some pictures, they fool you into thinking those are real eyes. I have never seen a mass produced figure at any level accomplish that feat before. I am so glad to make this my first Hot Toys purchase. :)

Actually, I had the V1 Jack wallpaper image I posted on the first page of this thread at work one time, and a guy walked by thinking it was a real picture of Depp. HT definitely knows how to put life into eyes. I'm getting anxious at the possibilities for pictures ahead, Will, JACK, Davy, fun days ahead.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Wow, the paint on those things are just amazing. Like the hair, they actually pay attention to the hairline and do those small details.

Davy will be awesome if the paint is as good as the previous figures.

I could believe it! Depending on how much I love my Cannibal Jack in hand, I may just end up picking up the rest of the series -Jack V1... don't need two of the same character.

How sturdy are the HT bodies? I have the Endo, and not to attack the figure (I love it), but it's freaking damn fragile!

Nothing at all like the Endo, it's a pretty sturdy body. The only area to be careful is the wrist pages chaging out hands.

:lol:lol:lol that's pretty good.

the hot toys body is great though. all the joints have a very nice fluid motion to them. no tight joints and no loose joints. its great. maybe that's not true of every hot toys figures but the few i got are great. where the buck seems like a gamble each time i get one. i always wonder which joint is gonna be the loose one this time.

No, that's true of all HT bodies I'd say. A couple of my earlier HT figures like their first Rambo and Hicks have sorta loose wrists, still not bad though, but I haven't had that issue with any of the ones in the past year or so. The quality of construction of HT's base body is superb and I hope something that carries over to Sideshow's Prometheus and the other new bodies.

Along with the Takara Genx I think the True-Type is the sturdiest out there, the Medi 301 is still a marvel of engineering when it comes to portraying the human form, but it's fragility is an issue, especially on some older figures.
Of course when the the Prometheus starts hitting that may all change.

Almost finished the words on my Jack and Will double review, just gotta find time to take some half decent photo's.
Here are a few rough ones taken last night to tide you over.

These show Wills pony-tail, it has quite a bit of give, but is nowhere near as flexible as Jacks dreads-

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

I know this may be covered in your review, but how is the skin tone on the two sculpts? Do they look a little too dark like V1 Jack?

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Thanks for the info and pictures Wookster, curious that they didn't make his pony tail more flexible. However, it has no bearing on the articulation I would have done with the 2 jointed neck anyway. My hope was to be able to get some sweet head tilted forward and down sword fight poses, swashbuckling if you will, but I down that'll be possible with this posed neck. May try to just get another HT body and swap out. Does Will's head still connect via the fat ball hinge like Jack V1's?
