Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

I showed Will to my wife and she said he looked just like the real thing. She generally gives me a "that's nice dear" kind of response when I show her something, so I guess that shows how well done these figures are. Of all my stuff, she's probably been the most complimentary about the Hot Toys POTC figures.

In other POTC news, I found that Meijer (a store similar to Wal-mart for those who don't have them) has the animated Swashbucklers POTC figures on clearance for half price. I like the animated style and had been waiting for them to go on clearance, so I picked up one of each for $3.99 apiece. Actually, they had all of their POTC on clearance. I think it won't be long before there won't be a single POTC toy left in stores.

Never seen or heard of them, of course most stores I go to still have the AWE stuff warming the pegs. I picked up a Jack Sparrow just cuz I'm a buff, but overall the figures looked kinda meh so I passed on them. If they were Hasbro quality with the sculpts and all, I'd probaly collect them, but Jack's just a novelty piece for me.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

I think they look pretty cool. Way nicer than the normal 4 inch figures that Zizzle did. Apparently there was a cartoon planned that got cancelled.

Those are pretty cool, maybe I'll check eBay or something.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Those toon POTC toys are at Target

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

I remember going to Meijer and seeing a ton of these, maybe I will check them out.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Yes, I've seen them at Target and Meijer, but not at places like TRU if I recall correctly. They're great as little cartoon statues of the characters, but terrible as "action" figures, since they have very limited articulation. But if you can find them cheap, I'd recommend them. They look very good displayed together.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Eh, I disagree. This line is pretty hot. More so than other HT properties. These are DEFINITELY selling.

I'd have to agree that the POTC line is definitely a best seller I think what is going on is that HT is really stretching themselves thin. Between the TDK Batman line, Iron Man line, POTC line and the upcoming Predator I line not to mention the additions to the exiting Predator line and Aliens line, everything is getting lost around in the shuffle. I wouldn't be surprised if after the hard push to get out the TDK and Iron Man lines you wouldn't see another two POTC offerings.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Ya, I think it's pretty clear the vast marjority of Hot Toys' reasources is being poured into this summer's blockbusters at the moment, POTC has momentum so it can step aside for a stint to allow for the new lines to get started. HT's already got 2 TDK figures and 2 1/4 scale TDK Busts ready for premier, so TDK alone has gotten some strong attention from them.

Relative to the height of the Davy Jones figure, I think removing the leg extensions would solve all issues. Will actually is about the same height as Davy Jones, so the Jones figure isn't TOO off in height from Will and Jack, sure he should be taller than them, but he's not so shorter that it's a huge problem, I don't think anyway.

I strongly hope you guys are right. I only have Jack right now but would love Barbossa and a Commodore Norrington to flank him.
I agree that HT really is grabbing licenses allover the place, one wonders how they will keep this up without suffering quality loss. But's looking good so far so they must be on top of things. Fingers crossed for CC then!

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Stop crying about height dammit people! Just be happy that we have a company like HT that puts out such beautifully detailed figures with nearly to spot on likenesses.

There is no pleasing you nerds.

Damn Eli, you better get Cannibal Jack soon before you lose it :lol.

I don't think anyone's crying, just discussing. I find issue with some the height differentials, but yes, I am thrilled to have awesome figures from Pirates being made and that's why I kept Will on order depsite my initial reaction to his outcome, and am happy to have him now that he's here and now it's the waiting game for more Jack and Davy.

Yeah I am putting the OCD into over drive on this figure... can one even accomplish over drive for OCD? lol

Anyway, I will probably only own Jack so size isn't an issue to me. Then again, I may love him so much I get totally hooked on the line and I get the rest of the figures in the series. :)

I understand what you're saying Maulfan, you love to dicuss things you're passionate about. I was just teasing of course. You know I am not one to really be mean. hehe

Yes, the waiting game... Eli hates to wait.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

How do you take the leg extenders off again? I would look for it in the thread but I haven't got the slightest idea when that was discussed or where to look for it in the posts. Thanks!

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

I should have taken Jack's hat off for this shot, but as you can see, all of the male figures are exactly the same height, or close enough that differences in posture/posing make the differences moot. Yes, Elizabeth is a bit too short, but I'm not losing any sleep over it. Rest assured that Will is not a "giant" by any stretch of the imagination. My only concern is how Davy will look in this lineup.

Anyway, Will is really well done. I'm not even that big of a fan of the character.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

The lack of a neck is what I think makes Davy a bit shorter than the rest.

But as you said, in a bent knee fight pose, you can adjust for the slight height difference.

I believe you just take some pliers to the extensions and pull them off. There's a barbell that has a ball in a socket on the leg and one in the boot, take that out and remove the extending tube on the leg and then put the barbell back into the leg socket and the boot back on and you shave about 1/4" off the height.
