Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

This shot makes Davy look more or less OK...

And in this shot he looks like a midget.

I assume this is because the distance to the camera and so forth is different between the two shots. I hope the actual height is closer to what he looks like in the first shot.

He is not as small as shown in the second pic,but its not as tall as the first pic either, check my very first pic with all 3 figures beside eachother.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Davy IS too short...but mostly to the oversized 1st Jack. He's much better compared with the 2nd Jack which looks shorter than the first.

Clearly, Jack is too tall. The first is horribly so. With the leg fix that was proposed here some time ago on Jack, I think all this can be easily remedied.

Davy looks great! So glad I got him and the new Jack. Once the new Jack gets the leg-peg fix, he will really be shorter and more in Sparrow fashion.

BTW, you couldn't swap Jack and Davy's bosies for obvious reasons...unless you want Jack to have a crab claw. :)

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

davy isnt too short. jack is just too tall IMO. its cuz the boots add too much height. and both jacks are the same height. the V1 just looks taller cuz of the hat.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Yeah, I always thought Jack was WAY too tall. This is why I pose Elizabeth with Medi Jack. I cancelled Will strictly because of his height issues (even taller than Jack). I can't let Davy go, though :monkey3

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Can someone confirm for me that Will is supposed to have two different boot sculpts? It seems fairly obvious looking at mine that they are the sam. His left foot does not rest flat on the stand in the same way that the right one does. Would I have to return the whole figure to Alter Ego to get a replacement if it is indeed a mistake?

I checked my Will Last night, there is a sublte difference in the curve of his boots, they are distinct, so sounds like maybe some did end up with 2 of the same.

When my HT Rambo's wrist pin broke, Toys2 just got a new pin for me and mailed it to me, but it wasn't the exact Rambo pin it was a slight different color so I knew they just took a stock piece. I don't know if they'd just ship a new boot or if you'd have to swap figures entirely. Just as your dealer and they'll let you know.

Having Will in hand now, he's not a giant compared to Jack, I think the height difference is about right, Orlando is just a bit taller than Johnny.

Here's my view on the POTC line's height issues.

Pirate garbed, booted figures like Will and Jack are coming out too tall because of the extenders and where the ball joint connects in the boots, but amongst each other they look fine.

Davy Jones is a heavily unique figure in his construction and comes in at the height the male figures ought to be, so he looks shorter compared to them.

The Hot Toys female body is just horribly disproportionate to the men. The height they averaged women to be when deciding the size of their 1/6 female body is just way off. I was thinking last night, and Keira's leg just about fits as well as Orlando's in the boot at the end of AWE, yet if you did that with the figures, would never work.

So, while there are some height discrepencies in the line, the only one that's a considerable issue is the female to male ratio, the man to man may not be perfect but it's close enough you can ignore it but the male-female is just blatant.

Until you pose Davy next to Mr. Turner.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Maybe its because I'm in a crappy mood, but I'm not all that impressed with Will. The ponytail keeps popping out on mine which is annoying. And his shoulder, neck, head area look strange to me, like he has his shoulders hunched or something. I think later when I'm in a better mood I may take the coat off and see if that helps any.

Standing him next to my other Sideshow Jedi he really doesn't look any bigger than them, but I have him on the same shelf with my Jedi Luke, Medi Jack, and Elizabeth and he really does look like a giant. :lol

The clothes are really awesome too. Hot Toys seems to shine there. I was very impressed by his coat having that silky lining on the insider like a real one would.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Exactly!!

Anyways, I can't wait to see what kind of creations you and your cam conjure up with Jack and Davy, Maul!

Oh, my gears are spinning, have ever since Davy was confirmed. I actually came up with an idea for a graphic using Will Jack and Elizabeth, but it's going to take a little bit to finish.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Sounds like we're in for some great pictures.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

A few shots I took tonight as part of a composition I'm working on, nothing too exciting by themselves, but some interesting lighting so figured I'd share these in the meantime.

I want an Elizabeth Swan but I'm not crazy about the outfit they chose..I wonder if they will put out another...

I would imagine that depends on both sales of the first Elizabeth and sales of the line overall. If the line is selling well, I'm sure they'll keep it going and if the first Elizabeth sold to a staisfactory point in their eyes, they'll invest in another.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

This line has gone dormant by Hot Toys standards hasn't it? I expected we'd be drooling over Barbossa by now...

Not necessarily, there was a significant span of time between their first and most recent Rocky figures. Also, Comic Con is around the corner. I think right now, The Dark Knight and Ironman are the big pushes because there are movies coming out to aid sales, but I don't think the POTC line can be called dormant just yet. Will, Cannibal Jack and Davy weren't announced until Jack, Sao and Elizabeth were in hand, so with Jack and Davy hitting U.S. in late May early June, I think we'll see more at Comic Con in July, no sense wasting announcements so close to the convention when you could have big in hand debuts.

Eh, I disagree. This line is pretty hot. More so than other HT properties. These are DEFINITELY selling.
