I also don't understand the love for that campy Predator 2. It must for people who watched it when they were very young and they never outgrew it.

But all the ones with "Predator" in their title were campy. :dunno

Ok finally watched it.

I didn’t hate it it’s not trash but I will never watch it again.

I’m ok with her beating and killing those french guys at the camp it just showed her being raised with a warriors heart and instincts because of her brother and both were likable enough.

The Predator was cool nothing really bad about him.

But overall just not enough there for me to ever rewatch.

I do need to revisit P2 and AvP though.

Nothing can touch the first.

Have to agree this was lightyears above any of the other sequels (even the second one which I've never quite understood the love for), and the main actress was great in the role. And I was so happy they didn't trot out the original score again like the last movie did at every opportunity, but instead came up with something that actually felt unique to this movie.

I was really bummed to find the Comanche version was only a dub though, as I really wanted the more authentic feel of people speaking their native language. I had to settle on the English version which kinda took me out of the movie at times.

I will say the ending fight felt a bit rushed though, and stretched credibility with how the Predator walked so perfectly into her trap. But the movie did so much else right that I can forgive it.
This. I haven't seen the movie, but this is what took me out of the trailer.

I think the appreciation for this film comes in the last few minutes. When we see the skulls and the variety of the species. This was a what the **** moment as a moviegoer.

Seems to me that those who didn't like the film didn't like it because of the Predator itself. For those people the design of the Predator and its portrayal are of the utmost importance and a Predator film lives or dies by it.

From what I'm hearing almost everything else is good.

Was too tired to watch it last night, maybe tonight to know where I'll stand.
I don't think this Predator design works nearly as well as the original Stan Winston one (and I'd probably skip the HT figure if they were to make one), but I think it still kinda makes sense for this movie, as a more ferocious and animalistic style of Predator.

And at least he doesn't look nearly as goofy as the rubbery one in Aliens vs Predator. Lol

Yep. The first 45 mins or so is quite slow but most of the things shown in that first 45 minutes come into play later which gives a satisfying payoff imo.
This. I didn't mind the pacing, but for those that did, at least those early moments served as bread crumbs/red herrings/etc for later. Nothing was really wasted.

This has probably already been posted but since I was avoiding spoilers I just now saw that the director said that this movie showed this particular Predator's first trip to Earth. That's cool, I like that just like Naru he also was trying to prove himself to be a worthy hunter.
Nifty idea, but I do hope they ignore it in future installments. If they want to make a sequel to Prey, that's cool, but I still want Predator in feudal Japan at some point. :lol

It was so well shot, and with the scenery given an 'epic' quality it didn't feel slow to me. And as you wrote, the scenes had meaning later.

Even time spent showing gathering food was depicting the traditional role of women within a Comanche tribe. In some tribes both men and women hunted, but Comanches had distinct roles for men and women. Hence the resistance to Naru's breaking with tradition.

What Were the Roles of Men & Women in the Comanche Tribe?

I pitched this idea to a friend who is involved with the franchise. He loved the idea.

We, uh... we should talk more.

I rewatched AVP for the first time in maybe ten years in 2021. It's still a fun romp, but does feel foofy at times. And I loved it as a kid, first Alien or Predator film I ever saw.

Somehow P2 still fires on all cylinders for me. I know P1 is the better film, but both movies remain equally sacred in my personal canon.

I guess my ranking would be:
P1 = P2
Predators
Prey

I stumbled on this review of P2 which summed it up well for me:

It was over the top, and there was some broad comedy such as the woman who doesn't realise there's a battle going on in her living room, but there was also a greater sense of danger:

Glover lends credibility and can pull off the action, but he also exhibits vulnerability.

As Murtaugh in Lethal Weapon, you always thought he suffered from slightly dodgy knees and he brings that normalcy to this character. With Arnie, there’s never a sense he can get genuinely hurt.

...

As for the ending, it remains one of the more divisive moments. No matter how brilliant the rest of the film, the finale of the first Predator has always grated, what with Arnie surviving a nuclear blast by hiding behind a small rock.

Prey is a big diversion from 1 and 2 in it's tone. The danger was also everywhere in nature, and not just from the Predator.

Yeah, I keep reading how much people here say they love Predator 2. :dunno

I haven't seen it since it released, but I remember a very different experience. It felt nothing like the original, and I remember it being pretty bad and universally panned. All I remember is how Danny Glover was awful, really bad acting, some Jamaican drug lord gang, and some ****ie scenes... :lol It felt like a low budget B movie. It still has super low ratings on RT.

I've only watched the original and the last 2 with my son (Predators & The Predator cause I had never seen them). Maybe it's time to rewatch Predator 2.

I have similar memory on its initial release. Corny, crazy, poorly directed, just jumped around without much logic -- the hot summer meant something, though I'm not sure what -- crazy purple light room with crazier Gary Busey hamming it up -- the near-future outfits looked cheap with Hawaiian shirts and hats. Kids liked it because it kept moving, Pred had a lot of weapons as I remember, and the finale established a whole world of Predators and possibilities.

That said, it likely seems brilliant compared with the crap that followed in the AvP universe and then the recent attempted resurrection of the franchise.

Just from a concept perspective, Prey is much closer to what a Predator movie should be about.

Predator vs Samurais

Predator vs Pirates

Predator vs WWI soldiers

Predator vs Nazis

Based on tone I would shift my rankings to put Prey at the top, followed by P2 and P1 (which are almost completely different animals).

Prey is more like Alien, and I could stretch that to cover the first three Alien films.

P1 and P2 are more like Alien Resurrection (which is a guilty pleasure like P2).

Given a choice though, I'd rather watch the first four solo Alien films than the first four solo Predators.
