Fox did that on a few catalogue titles, Im so glad they did not mess Alien and Aliens bluray. They look fantastic!
Is the 1st edition that much of a improvement over the SE DVD upscaled?
There are a number of shots in the Ultimate Hunter Edition where they went overboard with the processing. But for more shots than not, I too find the Ultimate Hunter Edition to be an improvement over the original blu-ray release. In an ideal world they wouldn't have used any noise reduction, but between our two options I find the Ultimate Hunter Edition to be the less sucky edition.I much prefer UHE. The picture is better, sound and a ton of extras. And it is part of the Trilogy blu ray set you can get with P2 and Preds for cheap at the same time. I dont get all this they ruined the movie stuff because it doesnt look like your watching it in a smoke filled room. There is tons and tons of comparison side by shots between the original release and the new one and the new one blows it away in terms of crisp and detail. But purists would rather watch it in lesser detail. Probably rather watch it on a old VHS. I dont get it.
So the blu ray of Predator removes the grain effect? Well that was a bad decision to be honest. I was going to buy the blu ray quite soon too.
The grain gives the film a more gritty look and would just look strange to me without it. I think the grain really adds to the films atmosphere.
The grain might "hide" some detail, but so does darkness in horror films. Take away the darkness and the effect is lost.
Whats the best DVD edition to get of Predator 1987?
For me, UHE is not what Predator is supposed to look like.
It's what blu ray is for though. If people don't like it they should just buy the standard dvd. I do understand what you mean about the grainy feel of the film. I grew up watching it that way. I have it on vhs, dvd, 1st edition blu ray and UHE and I do like the UHE. When he unmasks it's like you could just touch him for real.
I disagree.
Blu ray is meant to have more detail and colours etc.
It is not meant to have a grain free image. ALL movies shown in the cinema are higher resolution then Blu ray so if done right it can look stunning. The UHE removed detail which is what you notice first with Blu ray. The faces looks all smooth like wax when you are meant to see pores and imperfections in the skin.
Guess it's a good thing I have both versions to watch then right.
Check out Psycho or Living Dead at Manchester Morgue and see how old movies are meant to look on Bluray. Stunning psycho is!
Need to get some of the oldies for my collection.
Whats the most you spent on a HT figure?
I paid £200 for HT P1 on play.com when he was first released.
Thats not much more then the £180 for the Classic. The thing that bothers me is these HT figures are just higher end figures then NECA while Sideshow make statues and maquettes that actually look expensive. Im paying £145 plus VAT and fee for my Dog Alien from Sideshow so will be around £200 and not more I hope verses £180 for the HT Classic.
£200 was daylight robbery from play. I only paid £90 for Wolf. Once you get a HT's Pred in your hands, you'll realise why you paid the money for him. Plus you get more posing options and accessories.
