Preview Gandalf the White PF ...

After the long long wait i have to say I am alittle disappointed. I am sure the overall piece will look great but the likness is off IMO.

I have like many of you been looking forward so much to this piece but I do think that with a lot of these previews that the overall impact of seeing the statue in full will swing it for this PF compared to this current preview pic. I always think the previews are slightly misleading and lets hope thats the case here!! Either way I'm buying this!!
Maybe we'll get it in time for Christmas and we can display it with Rudolph under the tree!!! Just kidding!!

The face sculpt is weird, he looks like a muppet or something I dunno. I'm down about this too, but they have a lot of time to fix it up.

Welcome back!

I am anxious to see this one in person, as I get the feeling that this preview is not capturing it as well as it deserves.

Too true Tom, preview pics are often bashed, and then opinions get recanted when the piece is "in hand".


But as long as we've only got a preview pic, me thinks Gandy look like he be haven some dredlocks mon.

Face sculpt looks great IMO. The hair and beard could use a little ( or a lot ) of tweaking. I think they nailed the face though.

Everyone bashed the Frodo PF, and I think I'm in the minority when I say it looks good.

It looks like Gandalf is quite a few steps up in likeness, but I think the picture is also not the greatest. We'll get some better shots soon. I don't think it could have been made out of alternate materials and still look realistic. I think it looks a little "off" because it's a big beard made out of plastic. Gandalf had a big beard in the films though. It's a catch 22.

Count on my preorder regardless!

Yeah, Frodo isn't bad either. The lips are what hurts the figure IMO. That's OT though.

The hair around shoulders as I've said a couple times is what looks off to me. It looks as good as any of the SSW pieces. I agree with Kit on his assessment.

Problem to me is this and Frodo are OK. Not good, not great just meh. OK. If I convince myself enough out of fanboy hype, yeah looks good, but in all honesty it's just ok. What's sad is there are so few PF's in this line and none except 1 seem to have been given the attention that Star Wars, Horror and Marvel get in detail and accuracy. It's like the bar's been lowered for LOTR stuff while all the other things SS does get more attention to detail. After waiting SO long this piece SHOULD have knocked our socks off, not a reaction of "Mmmmmm ok....I guess."

I know the real deal may come out better, but that rarely happens in SS case. Usually they end up as what we see is what we get or worse. It's true, generally. This might be a bad pic, or a bad angle, who knows? But it really was a chance to blow some folks away, and it did the opposite.

Something's better than nothing, and I HOPE for the best, I WANT this to be cool, but I'm not holding my breath.

"Premium" Format should be JUST THAT! THE BEST! The best materials, the best paint, and above all, THE BEST LIKENESS!

I cant justify parting with my coin on a meh staute, just to get a fix, or fill a spot on a shelf!

The WETA bust and the GG GTG bust blow this away. Why does SS have so much trouble getting an accurate likeness? Its not like they're coming out with these every couple of months.....they're not rushed...they've got plenty of time......Just take your time and get it right!

I'd disagree. Frodo may just be ok but the detail is outstanding in the piece. The costume is fantastic and the sculpt outside the paint issue on the lips and eye is good. Maybe not "great" but good and Lurtz is just amazing. We're 3 PF into this thing and people wanna start going Chicken Little.

Actually, the problem is more 2 do with the wait. People start making in their minds what its gonna look like and when the real thing comes out they can't get past their own image. IMO this is one of the problems people have with the SW PT. The piece so far compared to the real life pics looks pretty damn good.

Well, then IMO you're not gonna be happy with whatever happens. You've already set yourself mentally 2 not like whatever happens to the piece. If it comes out looking like that facial sculpt wise with some minor tweaking to the hair around the shoulders we have a winner IMO.

As I said I think the only SSW Gandalf that compares to how good this looks so far is the GTW Bust as far as likeness. I've had the GTW statue, own the GTG Statue, Bust, and GTW/SF Statue but I still love these pieces.
