I dont know much about it either, but how can SS come to the table with this knowing that their previous Gandalfs were so much better!!??

The problem is their other Gandalf's were done by Weta sculptors, this one was not. Now I can see why there has been such a long delay with this piece...perhaps the delay wasn't long enough! IMO anyone who thinks the likeness of this PF is as good as some of the SS/Weta pieces should : a].have their eyeglass prescription renewed and b]. increase their medication

Better go see my eye doctor then. Cause I think it's as good as any of the SSW pieces. Ya know one thing that is apparent is that people are as blinded to Weta as anything. They're not perfect and had pieces during the entire line that lacked the "perfect" likeness. I think you might wanna look at the pics of the piece again and the pics of the REAL Sir Ian. It's pretty DAMN good.

Ya know someday I think people will get off this whole Weta is the God of Sculpting kick. I'm not saying SS is for that matter but Weta outside of LOTR hasn't done much of anything that seems to get much acclaim. They stabbed us in the back when the line ended or the way it ended. Then ignored us forever and finally came out 2 say we just wanted to move on and maybe someday we'll do some more. We wanna go do just Kong, Narnia, Superman, etc. Yeah, how's that working for ya!?

I love my SSW pieces. They where done by the folks that made my 3 Favorite movies ever. They captured something very special. However, I'm not blinded to their stuff being the best just because they worked on the movies. I'm a fan of LOTR first and foremost and if something like this GTW PF comes out and looks great I'm gonna say it. I won't just go ah it's not Weta.

Still studying the photo...I can live with the hair, but the beard does need to be reworked, especially along his upper lip (too much of defined line). And the hair and beard color are too yellow. If they were more silver, like the GTW Weta bust, then it might look better. The sculpt, however, I think is very good.

If we want to start comparing it to the WETA pieces with regards to likeness, then this piece is no worse than the GTG and GTW statues, neither of which look anything like Gandalf (especially GTG). And while GoSF is a phenomenal piece of art, his face is hidden because of the angle. And if you recall when that piece first came out, collectors had issues with the choice of facial expression (too intense for Gandalf was the general consensus).

Point is, the WETA pieces aren't perfect but I still like them for what they are. Same as this piece. It's not perfect, but I still like it, and is just as fine of a Gandalf collectible as the other offerings. I can't wait to see this in full form.

I totally agree with you, there was hits as well as misses with the Weta line. AND lets not forget one of the best statue's of the LOTR line was Boromir who was sculpted by..a Sideshow sculpter named Oluf!

The hair is so thick, no attention for detail. His beard, his head, his moustache ...

Did I say it was terrible? No, I said it was OK, and it is just OK. I don't think it is fantastic and it is my right to express my opinion. I am not trying to be rude or hurt the feelings of the sculptor, but I think it is pretty obvious that all sculptors are not as equally talented. Some are better than others whether you want to recognize that fact or not.

It is like that with every profession, including teaching. Are you going to tell me every teacher you have ever worked with is equally good. Sorry, but you know full well some teachers are better than others, and that's just a fact. Is that being rude or insulting to the teachers that aren't as good? Hardly.

Ever heard the saying....context, context, context. I was specifically referring to the Weta GWOS and GTW bust. I was not referring to Weta as a whole. SS/Weta did some absolutely great sculpts...they also did some really good ones, good ones, so-so ones, and some downright pathetic ones. So please don't even try to paint me with that brush! I do find it more than a little ironic that you being the SS fanboy that you obviously are, would ever fault anyone who is a fanboy of Weta...that is a bit hypocrtical on your part isn't it?

I said it with Yavin Luke, said what I didnt like about this piece based on the pics, and tons more. All that I say I don't like gets overlooked for whatever reason.

Yeah, Josh likes to be selective There's at least half a dozen people on this thread who have said they don't like it, but never once did he tell any of them they were being rude and insultive to the sculptor. I say the sculpt, from what I've seen so far, is OK, but not on par with two of the SS/Weta sculpts and all the sudden he's on my case.

He justifies this by making another one of his retarded "I'm reading between the lines" statements. He should stick to things he's good at, instead of that idiotic reading between the lines nonsense, but then again he just wouldn't be Josh then would he

Okay kids, cool down. We don't have as many pics of this figure as we do of the SS/W pieces. And admittedly, the Gandalfs were ones that Weta pretty much nailed each time (unlike most of their human sculpts), so this piece has a lot to live up to. For me the fact that it's mixed media will sell it for me, but I'm sure when we see more pics the likeness will be good.
