I think one chicken little posited that SSC was moving away from Star Wars 1/6th. But I think his theory was dismissed by most and it was in no way based on inside knowledge.

2 great bits about the body in the new Q&A:

We’re proud to reveal two new 12-inch figure bodies this week, one designed for the armored Troopers (devoloped in coordination with Hot Toys) and one as a new ’standard’ male body, referred to internally as the ‘Prometheus’ body. The Art S. Buck will continue to be used when appropriate (there are many factors that influence the decision of which body to use, including manufacturing and logistical reasons). Both the Trooper and the Prometheus bodies were designed with the expectation that both shorter and taller versions will be necessary in future products, and can accommodate these alternate heights via alternate legs and other body parts, in a similar way to previous releases that have been scaled appropriately. Click on the following link to get a good look at these 2 new bodies in our Production Blog:

So good news about height differences being maintained :rock

The intent is always to match portrait, body, and hand skin tones. Characters requiring specially sculpted necks (such as our recent Palpatine/Sidious set) will still feature specially sculpted necks, no matter which body is used.

And we can bank on the necks not sucking or looking unrealistic like the HT figures. Awesome :rock

Indeed. The Buck is dead... replaced by what are obviously far superior 1:6 bodies. That's all that matters to me.

It will prolly be used on the cheaper figures, like The Dead.

How idiotic. They just can't let go, can they?

I think for some figures, like the Dead, it makes sense and for figures (like Gandalf) where you don't see any of his body, and would have very limited neck articulation, it makes sense.

Sideshow probably has stock piles of the buck body that they need to get rid of.

Maybe in a year or so, when the buck well has run dry, we will see the total demise of the buck body.

Still, he'll look like he has digestion problems or a stick up his ass if he's on the Buck body. It doesn't hang as naturally as a true-type, RAH, or probably the new Prometheus body.

I guess the buck would still work for those zombie figures...

Well, that IS what the Buck body was originally made for. Sideshow got their start making characters from horror films.

Sure it does.

Now for The Dead it's fine. It works for them, but just because Gandalf has a few layers of robes doesn't mean he'll pose any better. Guess it should be fine for Jedi, too. :D

I knew this was going to happen, because they said they wouldn't retire the Buck last summer.

Eh, hopefully they release this body separate. Probably will so we have to pay more for a better body on figures like Gandalf. :monkey4

MaulFan should be happy (as am I) that characters with a unique neck (like Sidious) will still have necks no matter what body.

The grey and African American Bucks are still available but the Caucasian models are sold out so they may not have piles of them around... just a guess.

I think Jedi would be different since they can be posed logically w/ or w/o robes. But Gandalf is always fully covered and even the design of the costuming for this figure hides his wrist joints under cloth. I'm not saying it would be totally unreasonable to use the new body... but I don't think its as necessary as with figures whose costumes are more form fitting. Especially if each new body adds $20-$30 more per figure.

Gandalf wouldn't have all of his robes fighting the Balrog. He was practically naked at that point since everyones thinks he had layers and layers of outfit. He was just down to his last robe!

Thats a good point about the Balrog scene, but even then he was still fully covered. Except I think one wrist didn't have the sock thingy.

If he looks like that now, he would look like that no matter what body was used, and, btw, how can you tell if he does or doesn't have said stick stuck up said juss askin.

Now they have a new body, and we've been told it will be employed on the new Indy Jones. That doesn't mean that it has been employed on the proto, does it? Just as we haven't seen what the nude body looks like clothed, so how it hangs is still an unknown.

I am just a little perplexed now. I am one of the people who is unfortunately being priced out of the Sideshow 1/6 lines because of the 90.00 price range.
I had no complaints because it was suggested that the higher prices were due to newer bodies being constructed, with the cost of research and development. I accepted that with these new developments I will have to be very selective as to what figures I buy.
But now that has changed.
I was surprised and a little shocked to see that the new Prometheus body is the same basic design as the Volks bodies out of Japan. I own a few Neo Guys and Neo Girls and I can tell you the Sideshow body is almost exactly the same except for some muscle definition on the original Volks body and a slightly different neck post. The more I thought about it, the more upset I became.
This is nowhere close to being original. I have read some people state that there is only so many ways to reproduce the human body, but that doesn't make sense to me. Medicom has a 100% original body design, so does Hot Toys, Dragon, BBI, Toy Soldier and yes, even Hasbro's Super Articulated body from 2002 was 100% original. I don't mean to rain on anyone's parade, be happy, this is a new era in the world of Sideshow 1/6 figures.
However, I feel that this new body does not warrant the price increase. The ends do not justify the means.
