Sideshow sold the buck for $20, sounds like a Volks sell for $50... there's your $30 difference.
I had no complaints because it was suggested that the higher prices were due to newer bodies being constructed, with the cost of research and development. But now that has changed.
I was surprised and a little shocked to see that the new Prometheus body is the same basic design as the Volks bodies out of Japan. This is nowhere close to being original. .
However, I feel that this new body does not warrant the price increase. The ends do not justify the means.
I would think that their using the Prometheus myth (bringing fire to the people) literally: This figure is going to set our collectibles on fire.
We’re proud to reveal two new 12-inch figure bodies this week, one designed for the armored Troopers (devoloped in coordination with Hot Toys) and one as a new ’standard’ male body, referred to internally as the ‘Prometheus’ body. The Art S. Buck will continue to be used when appropriate (there are many factors that influence the decision of which body to use, including manufacturing and logistical reasons). Both the Trooper and the Prometheus bodies were designed with the expectation that both shorter and taller versions will be necessary in future products, and can accommodate these alternate heights via alternate legs and other body parts, in a similar way to previous releases that have been scaled appropriately.
so if a 1/6 company came out with a new body that looks just like the new SS pro body and called it their own none of you would have any problem with that?
Nope. I just don't take my doll collecting that seriously. As long as I'm getting a better product, I don't give a crap what's going on behind the scenes.

I am a bit surprised that not many people have a problem with the similarity between the new body and the volk/HT bodies, because to me, by using existing designs would mean there is less R&D time and effort, and that would have a direct impact on the price of the final product. and with the price of SSC going at $90 and possiblily more for armor figures, that brings in the question of what we are paying for? $90 might not be a problem for many of you, and it would seem like many would just pay it without a second thought as long as it is better, and not a buck. but the steady increase in price without the obivious improovement is something that's been annoying me for the last year, why is jedi luke $50 and farm boy luke $70? what are we getting for the $20? I have been buying SSC stuff from when they first made the 8" universal monster action figures and I have always felt their pricing is justified. I hate to think SSC is increasing the price because they can, but I just cant shake that feeling.
It would seem to me like you are reaching for a reason to moan about having to pay more. Not trying to slag you off or anything. Thats just how I see it.
I suppose it would seem that way, since I feel like you do about others who have posted comments on whatever problems or POV they have. but, what the hell, its only a hobby.
