Re: Intentional plot holes

No problem -- I respect that we all have differeing opinions. In fact, I quite like the two scenarios you speculate on. The marketing is meant to be viral and bring us further into the world of Prometheus to make it as "real" as possible...

But there is a FACT that had to be pointed out (and this is not an opinion):
the definition of a "Plot Hole" as "inconsistency or contradiction" in the fictional world of the story. Something that doesn't hold credibility.
A plot hole is not defined as the "question" in the viewer's mind--
The "Question" is a different and intentional plot devise, a very specific animal entirely,
(the counterpart plot device being one of Foreshadowing).

BUT...

If the problem for some is story connectivity or disjointedness, this may be a due to unfavorable story structure, where perhaps scenes should be added or removed to make the flow easier to digest.
Perhaps scenes that further explain what has happened OR scenes that foreshadow a future event to make it credible,
and not contrived or too convenient,
just to wrap up.

(I'm simply speculating what folks perhaps didn't get out of Prometheus. I'm not saying people shouldn't feel the way they do when they experience the film. Everyone will experience it differently based on what they gathered from the film, expectation or lack thereof, attention, the number of times they've watched it, and bias -- but there are other factors -- sometimes just a horribly edited film will kill it, or in terms of Star Wars prequesls horrible dialogue and situations (but structually those are sound)...as we've seen on the boards the choice of actors, writers, or something else just killed it for others...

Well put. There really aren't plot holes in the story. There are unanswered questions (Alien had those too) but that's not the same thing. If someone wants to say they didn't like the movie or didn't like some aspect, I can respect that and agree to disagree. However, someone claiming there are plot holes and refusing to point them out is a little like someone insisting there were Ewoks in the movie. Maybe there is an Ewok in the movie, but I've seen it three times and didn't notice any. Unless the person making the claim is willing to be specific they are kinda talking out of a hole in the lower half of their anatomy......

Just saw this the other day, and totally loved it. The engineers were so damn cool. Looking forward to seeing some cool engineer figures and stuff..

Not knocking anyone, but the story really wasn't that complicated at all, not sure how anyone could get confused by it. All the characters were great & the actors did an excellent job IMO. I might have actually enjoyed this one more that the Avenegers...

Fishing for a heated response. Cool it with the internet muscles ace, totally geeky and unnecessary. I wanted to avoid exactly this type of back and forth where people are somehow offended by opinions on a film.

I did quite a bunch of reading yesterday, and I've gotta say... some folks have been able to answer some things that really had me at a loss. Specifically, the effect/implications goo. Seemed like a major hole, but in fairness it has been largely answered. Now, I still think the goo having multiple effects was a bit confusing for the audience.

Still some details in the story that seem loose. I'd agree most those fall in the "unanswered questions" category. Swords down Prometheus lovers, let's move on.

I thought this also. It seems most people assume it's as simple as a side step.
When something that huge is rolling after you , you don't have the time to start running to the side hopping over whatever rocks may be in your way.

I think it was the "laying down and screaming" cliche that made that particular scene so weak.

I think it would have been more effective if it rolled over her as she was running. That would at least have made it seem more unavoidable.

I'm honestly not looking for an argument, but frankly it's foul ball to make a factually incorrect statement and then defy all response by proclaiming that it's a matter of opinion. It's not a matter of opinion whether there are Ewoks in the movie or not. It's not subjective whether a film has plot holes. Maybe you've seen something we've missed? Okay cool. Then point it out. Show us the plot hole or the Ewok. Otherwise....to put it nicely, that's foul ball.

If you find it confusing that the goo effected different creatures differently, we can discuss that. I didn't see it do anything contradictory, but simply have different effects on DNA in different circumstances. I wouldn't call that a plot hole. I'd say it's entirely conceivable that the "goo" would effect different creatures in different ways.

Yes, there are a number of unanswered questions. We can speculate on them if we want. Again, an unanswered question is not a plot hole. Otherwise, the original Space Jockey in Alien would qualify as a plot hole. The original chest-burster in 1979 suddenly growing exponentially would be a plot hole. But I wouldn't agree either actually was. They were unanswered questions.

Again, if you say you didn't like the film or didn't like some aspect of the film, I would respect your opinion. But making factually questionable statements and then refusing to explain? Come on..... That's stirring things up.

Thanks for the link.
Love this pic.

Awesome -- where was that In the movie? This painting has the feeling I wish the movie had. Creepy.

What this film does explain is how a facehugger could have gotten onto the spacejockey in Alien(with the elephant like trunk), it was a mask and not his natual head, this has been talked about for years. BTW about all these other speculaions, Ridley has always said they'd be a sequal or to Prometheus(maybe even a trilogy), so let's just wait till the next movie, yes.

Clues:

it wasn't the same planet as in ALIEN .

There was a second ship

bound to be more black oil on second ship

the Deacon could stow away aboard ship...

People like to overthink and overanalyze movies like this lol

I loved it too.

i think the point of the film is the unsatisfying nature of expecting to learn all of life's answers.

Yeah. I doubt the sequel will answer any of the questions people were expecting in a way that they find acceptable. How can anyone answer the questions people are hoping to have answered in a way that isn't going to feel like a cop out.

Master Qui-Gon, what's a medichlorian?
