Yup...and you are correct. But i think used games are not killing the publishers as much as they want us to believe. So i agree with your statements..but i think there is room for both.

I do too. Like I said before, I don't want used games to go away. Not at all. I collect old retro games, so I'm the last guy to support what MS is trying for.

this was an edit to one of my posts above. I have been directly involved in a pretty similar situation as MS is now. It sucked for us.

Edit:

In the past we tried to limit our product to the original purchasers only...it was a PR nightmare and cost us a ton of bad press. We thought we were doing the right thing to protect the business/consumers and the people involved in our business. Turned out the consumer saw it differently and thought we were impeding on their right to make their own decisions. Kind of similar to the MS backlash.

They bought used for the same reason everyone buys used. It's cheaper

:exactly:

My argument is simply that if used games were gone, publishers would get a much greater percentage of the money spent on their product.

That's assuming those ho buy used would start buying new since the used option is gone.

If they don't do that now, there's no reason to think they would.

If they can't afford new and instead buy used because it's more affordable then the absence of used doesn't put enough money in their pockets to start buying new instead.

So the publishers are still selling the same amount, it's just the used market customers can't buy games anymore.

I for example can't really afford Hot Toys anymore. So i don't buy them.

If there was an aftermakret where the figures were cheaper i could possibly buy some, and if Hot Toys found a away to stop that market i'd go back to not buying any not sudenly being able to afford them new.

You are probably correct. In my business, we dont care what anyone does with our product after it is sold. We make our $ the 1st time around.

Yeah, it's a tricky area. Though in MS' case, they'd be hard pressed to explain how any of this really benefits gamers.

Agreed. They have no leg to stand on with this. We made our decision based on goodwill and we ate S#$T for it. They are making that decision based on $ and that never sits well with anyone on the outside of the $ stream.
