My preference could be due in part to growing up with the NES and SNES controllers.

I loved those myself. I really do think it's the controller that you end up using the most. You get familiar and comfortable with it and it becomes natural. I loved the original PS controller. Felt great to me. Loved the DS2 also.

Hah, you're probably one of the few that actually prefers the 360 d-pad... I hate that thing, my back/forward movement tends to be upback/upforward movements on it.

I like the smaller Playstation controller. The weight didn't matter to me between the duel shock and non duel shock version. Maybe Karamozov80's right. My progression started with the NES to the Genesis on to the Playstation, so that might be part of it.

Indeed. I love that controller but the d-pad is a piece of a$$.

I don't think where you started matters at all. I've been playing since the original Nintendo and I much prefer the 360 controller to the ps. It fits my hands better and the joystick/dpad layout is better on the 360 controller.

I prefer the 360 controller because I like the trigger buttons for shooters but I like the PS3 controller just fine.

I'm sure it varies from person to person. To me, video game playing in its most "natural state" is either the NES, or arcade.

Sony finally fixed the problem for the trigger buttons on the DS4. Atleast I think so. I never really had a problem with the triggers, but I know some people did.

Well I have no issue with 360 controler , have issues with ps controller so its pretty simple, the ps controller is the issue. I never had an issue with ps controllers prior to having to use sticks, so that pretty much point to the the ps controller stick position bing the issue.

But you did say that drawing your thumb downwards to reach the sticks on the DS was annoying to you, but the Xbox's also has the right stick in the same place, so I'm guessing you don't play shooters 3rd or 1st person? Cause those require quasi-total use of the right stick.

I never said the DS was perfect though, just that it was superior IMO, the Xbox controller has the triggers which I think they're brilliant, but that's the only thing I like about it.

Having been just catching up on this battle this week it seems to me both consoles are actually closer together with potentially the X-box being the slightly better long term investment.

Much of the X-box (fanboy) concerns seem to be mountains out of mole hills in real world terms - for me. I'm a 32 year old male with my own house and pay my own bills. I'd say over 50% of gamers would match my description give or take 5 years in age. Possibly an even higher percentage.

On that -

1) My system will likely never leave it's resting spot - ever - you may as well screw it down.

2) I have a internet connection - it IS always on - my system WILL be connected at all times. If my internet is not working for even 30 seconds - I know about it and start going into spasms.

3) The gaming capability seems equal on both systems making the actual games the draw point as opposed to the box.

4) Going back to the age thing - My games are my games, I don't run round to little johnny's house round the corner to do swapsie's. My similarly aged "gamer" friends will most likely buy their own copy 95% of the time to play online with me. Only a very small percentage of games being made up of personal favorites or playing preferences.

So on those points both systems seem to be really quite equal in terms of competition for my personal situation yet I feel somewhere deep down microsoft are looking at the picture 3/4/5 years down the line.

I have both current systems by the way just to eradicate any bias I might have.

I'm still undecided but it's very very close for me.

Even without all the sharing and internet restrictions X1 has... it's still more expensive and weaker. All that other stuff and MS's attitude towards the consumer just piles on the **** of the X1.
