PSN Down Indefinitely?

I don't blame Sony for getting hacked (though they probably should have had better security), I blame the hackers for that. It could have just as easily been Microsoft or Nintendo that got hacked. What I blame Sony for is waiting 6 days to say anything as well as tell people there personal information has potentially been compromised. If Sony had been upfront from the get-go, I think alot of the backlash they're recieving right now would have ben avoided.

True, and I agree, but the security thing is pretty major. My buddy works in security for Citi bank and tells me all the time about how they have to block hackers. They get through, but will only get away with e-mails or no passwords, or passwords, but no e-mails, and even then, only 10-20 thousand out of millions upon millions of clients since they are all encrypted, moved daily and never kept in the same place at the same time. For the hackers to get away with what they did from sony, they must have been the best hackers in the world or sony had a security system in place that was basically naming the content folder "don't steal this". I'm guessing on the latter.
 
Like I said I'm sure Sony's security could have and should have been better especially since they're a major corporation, but still the hackers are the ones at fault in that situation. Like I said, Sony's fault was not notifying people the moment they knew their security and personal info was potentially hacked into. That blame falls squarely on Sony's shoulders. There is plenty of blame to go around.

Blame the people who hacked them..not the innocent party (and members) who got hacked. The "coverup" is an entirely different story. Look at what this event has turned into..people aren't angry at the hackers...they are angry at Sony for the way they handled it. So the party who is responsible gets away scott free while sony gets raked over the coals. Sorry, but I think that is a little unfair.

Sony is a corporation. corporations have something called liability. liability means Sony is responsible for securing their customers' personal data. Sony did not do that, and (eventually) admitted as much. and this is not the first time Sony has been caught with their pants down, far from it. their little DRM debacle got them hauled out in front of the FTC and Attorney General. you should also look up "NGO Strategy" and their shady business with the DoD. what happened here could turn out to be exponentially worse and nobody knows the full extent of the harm it could cause yet. which could take a congressional hearing to find out, considering how quickly Sony tried to sweep one of the biggest data breaches in history under their public relations rug. so, do you think it's unfair for Sony to be held responsible for an ongoing pattern of dishonest and potentially damaging behavior, or is their boilerplate PR firm approved non-apology letter and some free downloads good enough for you? personally, i think they deserve to get raked over the coals a little longer.

Its all about "what have you done for me lately." Apple is the golden child right now and they can sell all your personal information out the ying yang and people won't say squat because they know that Apple is paving the way in technology.

Meanwhile, Sony is slumping and people are bitter that the PS3 doesn't give them rimjobs like the iPhone apparently does, so here they are being blasted.

Whether you like it or not if you've ever signed up for anything online your data is at risk, Sony losing your data is nothing compared to the risk everyone has wittingly already exposed themselves to time and time again every time they register at companyxyz.com

Actually I would blame Sony--if the reports are true, the way people got in was from the recent homebrew hack (the whole Geohot thing). In which case, they've had a couple of months to work on blocking exploitations that people could have used the hack for. They should have been working on blocking that stuff rather than trying to sue people.
 
^^That was my understanding, that the anger isn't based on the fact that Sony got hacked, it's because their network security was so poor to begin with.

That, and failing to notify users immediately.

Any PSN+ Free Game you download will not work after the 1 month trial is up. Apparently some DLC will still work, and any Themes or Avatars you download will still work. Anything you buy at a discount is yours to keep.

PSN + was a waste of money. wish i never subscribed. havent used the thing. I got a free Sonic Adventure game.. that certainly doesnt justify the 60$ price tag.
