I always ask for comments, no matter if they are positive or negative. This is the best way to improve “OUR” Trek figures. No offenses at all, i like to read them and think them through.

I just feel I am letting my friends down, and i hate to let my friends down.

I am like a single Navy Seal working in enemies' territory protecting the well being of our citizens, my Trek Figures Friends.
Nanjin, no complaints from me, your passion for Star Trek is what made what we already have so far possible!
At least we have that.
I'm personally liking the reprieve on my bank account.

Nanjin, could you tell us if anything at SDCC this year has a revised sculpt?

I have no problem with long waits and long lead times...that is really the nature of this industry. But Scotty has been "done" for what, 2 years? And it still says TBD. If it said "4th Q 2019" and they had professional photos taken and up on their website with an accessory list, then I'd be fine. It's not the wait. It's the lack of conviction to release a product.

I agree completely- SOMETHING is wrong with QMX's Trek line plans- these figures have been shown for two years and no hint of a production version of any of them. So frustrating because the long gap MEANS SOMETHING. I certainly think sales might only be part of the issue. I love the figures they have done so far!

I can only say this.

I can develop and produce Any Trek Figures.

I have Uhura at work, I have 7, I have TPol, I have Sisko, I have Jadzia, I have a partially done Janeway, I have TMP Kirk, I have ST6 Kirk, I have partial Archer, I have a special Picard, I have Dr Crushed, The only character that I hardly think about is Chekhov [emoji6] (these are less than half of what I have been doing)

....and I have tiny voice at work.

Sorry, guys, those who know me all these years know what I wanted to do...and they should know...

I have been and always try to deliver these Trek Figures to the friends.

I am doing what I can.

Nanjin, I have and always will appreciate what you have done for getting awesome 1/6 Trek figures to us when no one else would and I love what you have done so far with QMX. I think sadly there is a gap between the quantity of figures QMX needs to sell to make a profit and the amount of 1/6 buying Star Trek fans out there. I think part of it might be due to the amount of 1/6 figures out there now a days. Hopefully QMX takes a leap of faith and produces the TWOK figures to see if there is a market for the iconic movie look.

Well the good news is they're at least still showing those figures, unlike the ones for Firefly and Justified which disappeared and will likely never be seen again.

Trek took a hit there too. Last year we saw Chris Pine Kirk, Riker, Worf, Geordi. This year they are gone like the Justified and Firefly figures.

Riker, Worf and Geordi I'm not too worried about, as it seems obvious they're simply focusing on getting the TOS and TWOK figures out first (and the fact Data is still there means they haven't given up on TNG entirely).

Beyond Kirk though always seemed like a long shot and unfortunately I doubt we'll ever see him again.

Prediction: we get Beyond Kirk when a 4th Kelvinverse Trek is in active production. Otherwise I think we never see it.

It would make sense to capitalise on that but they will need to get everything lined up and ready.

I have actually removed Trek figures from my 2018 “Reserved” purchasing budget... Not because I lost interest, but because I’ve lost hope of seeing a new release this year. I am worried that we didn’t even have release date estimates on at least one figure at SDCC!
EDIT: Please understand I mean no disrespect. I’m not blaming Nanjin, or even cursing QMX here. I am grateful for the amazing figures we’ve got so far. I’m just expressing my frustration and despair at the lack of release dates.

Nobody is blaming nanjin, everyone here knows of his passion and dedication to making fantastic Trek figures and bringing them to the fans to be able to buy and collect is second to none, and appreciates that greatly. But the point is, ultimately this in in QMX's hands, and if they are unwilling or reluctant to proceed for whatever reason, be it financial, production based, or just a general lack of faith in the overall sales potential, then there isn't a whole lot that nanjin or anyone else can do about it. And it is that uncertainty and a lack of clear direction in regards to what QMX is, or isn't, doing with Trek (and other lines) that is causing frustration and a loss of faith and hope amongst a lot of fans out there. Showing the same things over and over without any indication of fans and collectors being any closer to actually being able to buy any of them just underlines and compounds that.

Also the longer it gets between releases, the harder it is to get each sub-line going (TOS, TNG, DS9, Voyager, Movies, Discovery, Kelvin Timeline, Enterprise) as collectors lose faith that they will even get enough characters from any given incarnation to form a decent away team on their shelves, much less the dream of a full main crew. I honestly think that if they are going to proceed with Trek then they should focus on getting Scotty and a couple of TNG characters out for fans to buy, try to regain some forward momentum on the lines that they have already started, rather than fracturing focus onto multiple different directions. When they have completed, or near completed, the big seven of TOS then move onto Wrath of Khan, when you have a decent amount of TNG done, then sprinkle in Discovery, and so on down the line, so each iteration at least gets a decent sampling of characters before another is started and brought into the mix. Also, while many complain about long pre-orders, at least pre-order windows bring collectors a certain sense of security that a given release is actually going to come out eventually, so personally I think a few pre-orders might help to re-build confidence, as it shows a clear intent to release.

Just my thoughts, anyhow.

I honestly think 'staingate' has killed TNG, which is a shame because Data was getting there, and that Riker looked spectacular. So I think they should focus on TOS and sprinkle in some TWOK. And fingers crossed, they figure out a fix for the dye bleed and get back to Next Gen eventually.

I agree, I think the staining issue shook their faith. It happened with a really key figure too. Maybe they just need to line the collars with a lighter grey or even just a clear plastic strip like they use on shirt collars.

Agreed about stain gate(my Picard was a little stain but honestly I didn't care. I had way more problems with his hands and swapping. Broke quick. The replacements are fine but even now it takes patience to swap them. In stark contrast, kirk and Spock continue to be the easiest to work with hand swappers in my entire collection lol). But I hope that didn't just destroy all sales. Picard problems don't mean I don't like the figure I do. And it won't stop me from buying other figures, I will. But I know its an issue and I hope they will work it out. With only a handful of releases, this is still my favorite trek merch of all time and I have a ton of the diamond select figures(who went deep on most of the series except Voyager).

How about a Scotty & Security (black hair) two pack? Uhura & Security (brown hair) two pack? Everything is there, mass produce! This should help keep production costs to a minimum. Also consider having the gold braids on the side so the collector can add themselves and make their own ranks. Like QMX did when they included extra gold braids for Khan.

I think QMX needs to focus and concentrate on solely one lisence at a time and complete it. The lack of direction is killing everything. TOS first, WOK, then TNG followed by whatever they can do after that, but let's get something completed before getting scattered.

Thoughts?

If they do Trek only that could be bad as they become known as just Star Trek figure makers. If they want to be known as a serious contender in the figure world, they need multiple licenses. Imagine if Hot Toys ONLY made Star Wars. Yeah, I know they do a lot of that now but you get the idea. If I were them, I'd do some kind of quarterly schedule. Since Trek is their flagship, 1 trek figure per quarter. Then do 2-3 other figures from other lines sprinkled in between. So maybe 6-8 figures a year? Not crazy and doable and would renew faith for fans of all their lines.

Treat Trek line as military figures can reduce cost, streamline production procedures, and release time.

The most effective and efficient way of managing this product line.

I said this in 2011 when I had no experience and connections.

I am still saying this now in 2018 when I have the experiences and the connections.

I spoke to Dave at the con. The Firefly figures will need some type of media tie-in to move the line forward. It’s not cancelled but no immediate plans to release anything new.

TNG - Far less popular than TOS. Sales have confirmed that fact. QMx is evaluating their planned releases. Will still come out but probably not at a steady tick (my take from the conversation).

TOS - the real reason I was even there. I bet the farm on Mezco because they looked pretty good, were cheaper/took up less space and Mez looked to be dedicated to going at least Bridge Crew deep. Boy was I wrong. Mez is likely done based on IG DMs with them. So I decided to put my money on QMx. To my dismay, I’ve missed the boat on Kirk and Spock apparently. Hence the discussion with Dave. I explained that in order for me to go in with Bones, Sulu or Scotty and Uhura, I need Kirk & Spock. He explained that they were looking at exactly that same issue. They are aware of the high secondary (fleebay) prices and are looking at how to get the big two in everyone’s hand to support the sales of the remaining crew. Perhaps Mirror Mirror or dress uni’s or a two pack or something. But they are aware of the limiting nature of the big two no longer being available. This is also when we were told how much more robust Kirks sales were compared to Picards.

Also, they are looking at their release schedule and strategy. This may lead to releasing similar to what someone mentioned with the TOS leading the charge and the other series to follow.

That being said, anyone have a Kirk and Spock they want to get rid of?
