Rambo: Last Blood [Rambo 5]

Thought DH2 rocked, the Dennis Franz character was over the top though.
Liked DH 3 but hated the ending.
Also really liked DH 4 but loathed DH5.
Not having more Al,Holly and the reporter from the first one was a misstep after DH2. Cameos would’ve been nice.
My 2 cents.

I'm cool with that.. My biggest issue that many state that DH4 was not a Die Hard movie yet ignore all the ways that DH3 is not a DH movie.. I find part two to be poorly directed and corny.. I did like it at the time of its release though and it does feel the most like DH of all the sequels... I think that has as much too do with its 80's feel then anything else even though it came out in 1990

I love Sam Jackson in DH3... love their racist banter.

Its a great buddy-buddy movie, a good 'mad bomber' movie, not such a great Die Hard movie, and a piss-poor heist movie all-in-one.

Great point about Rambo FB being treated differently had it not been the first.

But all self respecting Rambo fans know that FB is the real deal lol

FB is truly an amazing movie.

FB is an all time classic. Far better IMO then all the sequels to follow.

FB is is as much of a drama as an action film, which is nothing like part II or III.

Still have not seen the new movie. Waiting for my Best friend to get back from vacation to see it with him. My rankings as of now are

The one thing that kinda drives me crazy about all the Rambo films is the "See hero shoot gun and watch Bad guys fall" style of action. First Blood kind of did this also when he was shooting up the town but it served more of a dramatic purpose to the story and was not a true "action scene"

Rambo II and III do this all the time and it bores me know. I use to think it was cool like all kids who grew up in the 80's did but not anymore.

Rambo 4 is almost a really great action movie but it does the same things for the final action scene. I am always disappointed each time I watch it that the big action moment o f the film is Rambo firing the gun and watching the bad guys just get shredded. Its a cool scene on its own.. But as the final climax / main action scene.. Its a let down. If the film had some more original action and some hand to hand combat it would be an all time fav of mine.

Having said that part 4 is easily my 2nd fav Rambo movie and I do enjoy it every time I watch it.


I don't know what to expect out of the next film... I like the idea of taking a character like Rambo and sticking him in another genre of movie. I'm all for seeing what Rambo would do to sex trafficker's.

I've watched other films with evil people in it and have said to myself.. Man I wish Rambo was in this film to take care of them

I've never loved it. But I do like Sam Jackson in it. Its the third best Die Hard movie for me but its a huge drop off from my Fav two DH films.

Wow hold on there. TOD is my 5th fav action film.. I love it warts and all. Its no Raiders but Ford is just about as good in that one. It was the Indy film that made me an Indy fanatic. I went through a period of my life were I turned my back on it but have come back too it and just find it too be a joy to watch. Its far from perfect but I love Indy, Short Round, and Yes even Willie. I find the Mind Car chase to be one of the series top 3 action sequences and John Williams Score is fantastic. It leaps and bounds better then the other two sequels IMO.

But it is No Raiders and I am pretty sure that nostalgia plays a big part of my love for it.

ToD is clearly the 2nd best Indy movie... but it is very far from the original. Just as your favorite DH sequel is very far from the original. Both Raiders and Die Hard were lightning in a bottle... to me, the sequels are all firecrackers at best.

The Bourne movies had a big influence on the action genre with the style, music, and the awful shaky cam. John Wick got rid of the shaky cam and I think it has elevated action movies with the choreography, world building, and great visuals.

Also, many probably consider The Raid as the defining action movie of the 2010's.

The JW bulletproof suit idea must be driving the Bond franchise crazy. It's such an obvious idea for an action hero that only wears suits, yet Q never thought of inventing one in almost 60 years for Bond. It's like the perfect plot devise/armor to protect the main character.

This is true... but I was talking more about genre re-defining from the original film source rather than opinion on sequel relevance or quality.

I'm not sure I agree about Bourne and/or Wick redefining the genre. They have had a large impact -- like Rambo Part II did in the 80's -- but I don't see either of those as totally genre re-defining. Shots and style are only one part of the necessary ingredients.

The 2000's -- from 2000 all the way to now -- have been a great void in new, unique and inventive genre-bending action-adventure movies... mostly because of the choke-hold of established IPs during that time (LOTR, Star Wars, Batman, etc) and especially with Marvel ruling that genre since 2008 with a very enjoyable but basic cookie-cutter formula. The only fresh world-building franchise in that time was "Pirates" but that didn't really re-invent the genre in the way Raiders, Die Hard and Matrix did.

I agree with that. Matrix action is very... stilted. Deliberately so. That's not my optimum way to do action. I like my action to feel real and move fast. And no hang-time.

Hell, there's barely any fights in THE action movie of all action movies, Die Hard.

That broken glass scene in DH is just pure freaking unfiltered brilliance it gives me goosebumps every time I watch it.

You know what my favorite scene in the Matrix is it still remains the first time Neo meetsTrinity in the club zero action.
