None taken bud, I did enjoy it. I'm a huge Nolan fan, but unfortunately it does NOT hold up to even the likes of even a movie like Insomnia.

I wanted to rate it higher, but just couldn't, it was boring and lacked all the essentials that make a Nolan movie.. well, a Nolan movie.

He needs to ditch his brother :lol

I liked Interstellar, but I think Inception was Nolan's best.

Shutter Island - 6.5/10

Was almost gonna turn it off because I'm not a fan of psychological....dream state drama (I hadn't seen this film before, remember hearing about it but forgot what it was about) but the ending somewhat redeemed it.

It's not for everyone for sure.

I for one love these kind of films and SI is definitely one of my all time favourite :lol

Did I interpret the last line correctly? It seemed to suggest he was still aware of reality but choosing to go back into the fiction he had concocted?

That is correct. He couldn't cope with the guilt of knowing what he had done :duff

One of my all time favourite films as well. 6.5/10 is horribly low :horror

I think he choose to pretend to be Teddy and get lobotomised.
He knew that sooner or later he'll break yet again.

Hmm. Perhaps it might actually improve when you know the ending. 6.5 admittedly might be unfair.

Just, when I think of dream/hallucination type stuff I can't help but be reminded of what was the most boring Soprano's episode ever made.

Agreed on the Sopranos episode. I understand why they did it and the concept behind it, but it is my least favourite episode as well.

I wouldn't necessarily compare that to Shutter Island however. I recommend a second viewing. All the subtle nods hinting at the role play make it a very enjoyable second viewing.

The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones

Yes, I just watched them back to back after not seeing them for several years. It was more for nostalgia sake since I loved them as a kid but they're not THAT bad:monkey3

Interstellar - 7/10 I think. Need another viewing, will probably go down just a tad. Less than the return to form I was hoping for with Nolan though, that's for sure.

Dumb And Dumber To - 6/10 Could have been better but still was enjoyable and glad they made it.

"No Retreat No Surrender" - 6.5 / 10

Well.. first time watch - yep. :lol I knew about this film for decades - & for whatever reason, never got around to seeing it - especially with a few of my friends being heavily into martial arts growing up & talking about this film.. I'm even more at a loss for an explanation for not having seen it till now.

Yeah. It's a nice story.. when it's not making you cringe. Karate Kid definitely has it over this for longevity. Those 'Bruce Lee' mentoring scenes.. my god - wtf. He didn't look OR sound like him. That token fat guy was beyond irritating too.

Anyway, the kid playing the main character is likeable enough, & his break dancing friend - while annoying, added some cool scenes, like at the club etc. The real draw though, is the fights, & they were all fairly good. The end with Van Damme was a little cheesy in places, but pretty solid. I actually bought this cheap on DVD, so while it not rocking my world so to speak, I've started my Van Damme library now. Again - always been a fan of his old films, but never bought any. till now. :lol

"The Last Samurai" - 8.5 / 10

Well, another film I haven't seen till now. I've always wanted to sit down properly & watch it, & I finally got the chance last night - loved it. I was tempted to give it a 9, but there were a few 'Tom being Tom' moments I felt, which made me chuckle a tiny bit. :lol

That said - the story, the cast, cinematography, the authenticity in recreating period Japan / the Samurai society, the battle scenes - awesome. All in all - pretty damn epic, & I'm going to buy it. :rock

Lots of 9 and 10's in here recently. I guess movies are getting better and better. :dunno :lol

I score relative to the movie on its own, based entirely on how it entertained me at the time, with no benchmark to gauge from that might limit a high score.
