Never saw it. But anyone who wants the theater experience... is getting three more chances with the sequels...

It's a total rip off, even the design of the cat people was a ripoff of a Marvel comic.

He basically took a bunch of stuff and put it all in one film, which is exactly what Lucas did with Indy and Star Wars, yet some people use that against Cameron because the film was so successful, but they ignore how he did the same with The Terminator...even the name was stolen from DC comics (the other company this time), but most people give it a pass because they were kids when they saw SW and Terminator. Personally, I don't care as long as the film is entertaining and offers something new, which they all do, some better than others.

Yeah, pretty much this. Cameron just did what Lucas did with Star Wars (a remix of Kurosawa films, Spaghetti Westerns, pulp 30's sci-fi serials, Alex Raymond comics, new-age philosophy, etc) - except Cameron's interests were more along the lines of old comics, Edgar Rice Burroughs, Frank Frazetta, anime and manga, prog rock album covers, etc - it's everything he loved from his childhood and adolescence reimagined for a new generation.

Avatar's a fine film, I'd give it a solid 7/10. Its biggest sin is that the protagonists are fairly bland and uninteresting, and thus get overpowered by Stephen Lang's standout performance as Quaritch. That said, I feel some of that blame can be placed at the feet of charisma vacuums like Sam Worthington. If Avatar had been made in the 80's and starred Michael Biehn as Jake, it'd be a different story.

It is interesting to think about how people judge movies. That is why I don't put a lot into others scores. Just the general "well a 9/10 must mean they really liked it" for what ever reason. Maybe I am over thinking it but, I believe this is how I will gage my reviews from now on.

Casting 0.0 - 2.0
Story 0.0-2.0
Score 0.0 - 2.0
Cinematography 0.0 - 2.0
Re-watch value 0.0 - 2.0

I hope this will give me the ability to separate movies more.

That rating system is okay if you judge a film only by it's rewatch factor. But by that system I'd have to give Schindler's List a 2/5 when in reality I consider it a masterpiece. In no way does that mean that you can't use your own methods but it isn't something I would ever adopt.

I didn't say my system was perfect! Lol.

And WWE, just stop. Really. Stop. You can't see you"re setting yourself up for **** with posts like? This is me not hating on you or your opinion. This is me giving you the same advice others have tried giving countless times.

I don't get it. Can you provide a fake example using that system and how you get the final score?

Just calling out the double standard here.

How To Train Your Dragon - 8.5/10

Where The Wild Things Are - 5/10 great practical effects and audio, but that's about it. I would've slapped the crap out of that kid personally.

What did people like about Sicario? Some were praising it, personally I didn't enjoy it and was waiting for it to end. Fine movie, great cast, some great shots, just not for me. I didn't understand the point of Emily Blunt, seems like it should have focused all on del Toro.

It's true.

He just goes by Deathstroke now...but he was originally introduced as "The Terminator"...in 1980. But that's ancient history, and now when people hear The Terminator name, they think of Arnold, not the original Terminator.

wow that's crazy, the outer limits time travel episode I knew about as that writer now gets writing credit on The Terminator film but I had no idea that Deathstroke was original called The Terminator lol

I hated it the first time I saw it. I kept checking my watch and wondering when that **** would end. I could not believe the box office numbers. I could not believe the hype. I'm so happy many went back on their initial feelings for it and hate it with me. I guess the effects were great but I hated the designs of most of the stuff so the point I'd award it for technical achievement is taken away for looking stupid. AotC has some good parts to it. Not many, but I did sit through the movie a half dozen or so times before realizing it was as bad as it was.

Thanks for sharing that photo! I'd heard of that deleted scene but have never seen it before. Neat. Submarines don't submerge unless they're hiding from other ships in wartime. WWII hadn't started yet. Was Germany breaking any national treaties or laws having a submarine in the Mediterranean near Egypt? I never really thought about that either myself.

Want to give us an example of a 10/10?

Its interesting how much TFA got ripped apart for Rey acquiring Force powers so quickly, but crap like Indy sailing across the Atlantic tied to a periscope is AOK.....that part always bothered me ....

**** Cameron.

I don't see why you think he ripped off Deathstroke though. They both have the name "Terminator" but that could merely be coincidence.

Well, it's a very specific name of a buff dude who uses big machine guns and he was around for at least 3 years before Cameron made the film. What I don't get is why DC comics never sued Cameron. If I had a character named The Terminator...and four years later some guy makes a film using that name and it becomes very popular to the point that it completely overshadows my creation and it makes people think that I'm the one copying the film, I might have a problem with that.

Meh, I don't see it. Guns aren't very specific and all superheroes/villains are buff.

I can't imagine Cameron would have even known about this comic or character, but who knows, maybe he did.

There was also a movie called "The Exterminator" in the late 70's early 80's, basically the guy was a one man killing machine.

Re: Deathstroke, I don't think the name and him being a muscle bound killing machine is enough to consider it stealing, honestly I'd be surprised if he had ever heard of it in the first place.

As far as Avatar goes, no, it's not that bad, I think some people are getting carried away on the hate-train. I don't think it deserves the success it got though.
